According to signs that are starting to show up at some Wal-Marts, the Xbox will be launched on November 4th for $299.96 (Wal-Mart likes to price things at XX.96 so they have the "low" price).

All games will be 59.99

The IGN 360 boards are going nuts with the info... smile

Let's start talking Day 1 purchases...

1. Project Gotham Racing 3

So far that's it...probably not what Microsoft is looking for from an early adopter...heh.

I will pick up Madden as long as it has the same feature set as the release coming next week.  If it skimps on them I'll be skipping it and renting it this year.

PGR 3
Oblivion

from there it all depends on what is out.  If Kameo is a launch title I will be all over it.

I forgot about Oblivion.  Kameo should be a launch game along with Perfect Dark Zero from Rare.  I doubt I'll buy Oblivion though, just not my type of game (I know lots of people love these games though).

Tst. $59,99? If that flies, you'll be seeing a lot of publishers raising their game prices to that one soon after.

Anyways, I'll be looking at PGR3 and Kameo myself.

How much does MS make off of every single game? I've been wondering when a console manufacturer would switch to the razor blade mentality, where the console/razor handle is as cheap as possible to get people using your brand, then recoup your profits through more expensive blades/games. This isn't necessarily a sneaky tactic, just a means of setting up a wide user base.

That being said, $60 US is still expensive.

Sony and Microsoft already do this, taking a bath on the hardware and hope to recoup on the licensing fees from other publishers. From what I understand, Microsoft/Sony make around $7 on a $50 title. How much they make on a first-party title, of course, depends on development costs.

This is the way consoles have always worked to my knowledge. Console makers only make a few bucks, or in some cases take a loss on each system sold. They make their money on the peripherals and games.

The same goes for retailers. They don't make much, or any, money on the sale of the actual system. That is why a lot of places won't let you buy just the console, you need to buy a bundle with peripherals and games.

From what I've read.

Launch Titles:

Kameo
Perfect Dark Zero
Madden 06
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (GR3)
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Test Drive Unlimited
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
SSX 4 (simply because it will be out before the 360)

"Launch Window" Titles:

Oblivion
PGR3 (may not be a launch game)

It may or may not, I'm just guessing.  They have yet to confirm Burnout Revenge is coming to Xbox 360 even though everyone and their brother knows it is for instance.

I was going off of this quote from a Gamespot interview when SSX4 was first announced:

Quote
GS: Is the game only for this generation of consoles, or will it appear on next-gen consoles?

SA: The game will only be available on the current generation of consoles.

Console = perfect price. Purchase on day 1 (already reserved at my local Gamestop)
Games = way too expensive. Oblivion (if I don't get it for my PC), Kameo, maybe PD0, will be my games. Maybe. $60 per title is way too much IMHO.

I know this is an age old debate... but for years games have been priced at the same $50 despite rising development costs.  A jump to $60 isn't really all that bad.  What it will do is cause me to buy less games day 1, but not really buy less games overall.

$60 really isn't that much considering that in the 80s/early 90s games were regularly priced $59.99 - $79.99.  Take inflation into account and $60 looks like a pretty good deal.

Just to put it into perspective:

$40 in 1985 == $70 in 2005

$40 in 1990 == $60 in 2005

$60 in 1990 == $90 in 2005

$50 in 1995 (the year the $50 standard was set by Sony) == $62.21 in 2005

So if anything, $60 games today are a (slightly) better bargain than $50 games a decade ago.

Yep... no problem with the $60 pricetag for games and really quite happy with the price of the console itself.

I'll have to find a place to preorder soon.

I look at it this way - would you rather risk $50 for a piece of junk game, or $60?

I remember all the PS2 launch 'titles', and I remember how just about all of them were games worth forgetting they ever existed. Fantavision, anyone? biggrin

None of those games interest me.  They're all part of a series, so I'll just play the non-facelift versions until the price on a 360 drops.  Kameo is the only "original" game on there.

I am all over PGR3.  When that comes out I will buy a 360.  If it's not a launch title I can wait.

Kameo -- not interested
PDZ -- everybody is terrified of this game
Madden -- never
GRAW -- looks good, not sure it's my cup of tea
NFS -- looks nice but not my kind of racing
TDU -- are you kidding me?  re-release Test Drive 3 and maybe...
THAW -- love TH, hope it doesn't suck as bad as THUG2
SSX4 -- love it, but no online and might not be on 360
Oblivion -- probably!
PGR3 -- has me excited!  PGR2 being my fav Xbox title

Wow, you just saved me $300!  Not a single title there that I would consider a 'must have'.  Hell, there's only two (Oblivion and SSX4) that I would consider buying at all, and even those would require some incredible reviews.

After my PSP experience, I refuse to get suckered into purchasing day one, and have to sit on it for months (or years) until any good games come out.  Much rather wait until there is an established library, then pick up a bunch of stuff at once.

Test Drive Unlimited has been delayed until Early 2006.

Call of Duty 2 is going to be a launch title. DOA4 and Tiger Woods 2006 are also supposed to be launch titles. As is Final Fantasy XI.

NBA 2K6 and NBA Live are going to launch with the system as well.

Kameo-Interested, not sure
Perfect Dark Zero-Likely will buy
Madden 06-Almost definate buy
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (GR3)-very likely buy
Need for Speed: Most Wanted-nope
Test Drive Unlimited-nop
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland-nope
SSX 4 (simply because it will be out before the 360)-nope
Tiger Woods 2006 (I am positive this is a launch title)-absolute buy

Aren't there supposed to be like 50 launch titles guys? This can't possibly be it.

Full Auto and Saints Row are also launch titles.

The launch title list that AgtFox made isn't very accurate, don't base your purchase of an Xbox 360 on it.
