Now that the era of the Xbox 360 is drawing to a close with the impending arrival of the Xbox One, what are its best of the best games? Games that you absolutely must play before you move on for good.

What is your list?

Disclosure: I just got a Xbox 360 on the cheap, and am basically playing catch-up. smile

Do you have a PS3 and/or a good gaming PC.  Basically trying to figure out what level of exclusives to recommend.  Red Dead Redemption is the standout console exclusive game having no PC version, but if you had a PS3 you could have played it there for instance.

Now that the era of the Xbox 360 is dawning to a close

Dawning to a close? Tongue

Forza Horizons, Crackdown, Kameo, Fable 2, Shadow Complex.

[edit] if you haven't played it on the PS3 I'd also recommend Red Dead Redemption.

Gaming PC: an fairly capable one.

PS3: nope. Will move on to that once I'm done with the 360.

Forza Horizons, Crackdown, Kameo, Fable 2, Shadow Complex.

That's a good start.  Depending on what kind of games you like, some of my most played that I'd recommend would be: Dragon's Dogma, State of Decay, Driver: San Francisco, Earth Defense Force 2017, Project Gotham Racing 4, Skate (maybe #3?), Mark of the Ninja, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts N Bolts, Forza Motorsport 4, Fable 2 (and maybe 3).

Of course there are also the popular games I didn't really play much like the Gears of War games, the Halo games, the Mass Effect series, etc.

If you haven't played Just Cause 2, I had a ton of fun with that on 360. I'd also recommend Castlevania :Lords of Shadow and Castle Crashers. Bastion is fun too.

Halo 3 (not my choice, but based on what I've been told)
Gears of War 1-3
Red Dead Redemption (Multiplatform)
Mass Effect 1-3  (Multiplatform)
Forza 3, 4 and Horizon
Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 1-2
Fable 2-3

yep, Dragon's Dogma is also another good choice.  Just make sure you grab the Dark Arisen version if you decide to get it.

Mark of the Ninja got a PC release, but definitely play it on something if you haven't.

Have you played most of the big games on other platforms, like Batman? Are we talking exclusives only?

That's the thing.  Most of the best games are cross-platform between PS3, 360 and (often) PC.

I got my 360 late and really never played it much because I found most Xbox 360 games that were worth playing were eventually ported to PC.  The only one I can think of that wasnít is Shadow Complex.

That said, if you havenít played these elsewhere, definitely download:
Mark of the Ninja
Limbo
Dust: An Elysium Tale

agreed, but the control scheme on 360 is pretty good from what I read.

as for console only 360, I'd put RDR at the top of the list, Halo Reach too.  I liked that campaign a lot more than Halo 4, which I never finished.  Shadow Complex is the best XBLA came you can't get anywhere else (still annoyed by this)

Oh, another vote for Alan Wake if you canít play it on PC.  The PC version is better in every conceivable way though.  I played Alan Wake for the first time only about a year ago and I was surprised but how good it was, it was actually one of my favorite games of the year.

If you're looking for games that are a bit off the mainstream beaten path, I would recommend:

-  Nier - An action/RPG/adventure/bullet-hell SHUMP/side scroller/text adventure/survival horror...thing.  Completely impossible to categorize, but a wonderfully engaging and unique game.
-  El Shaddai:  Ascent of the Metatron - Pure Japanese weirdness and the most incredibly beautiful video game I have ever played.  Honestly must be seen to be believed.
-  Magna Carta 2 - A surprisingly fun JRPG that didn't get much publicity.
-  Dungeon Siege 3 - Vastly different from it's PC predecessors, I thought DS3 was the best console hack-n-slash available for this generation, prior to Diablo 3 being released.
-  Bayonetta - Utterly ridiculous, but a hell of a lot of fun.

I played it this way on the pc and it was manageable, but I seem to remember they made it even cleaner for the 360.

I'll only list 360 exclusives - will also omit games that are only on the PC and 360.

Halo 3
Halo 4
Halo CE Anniversary (HD remake of the original and considerably better)
Gears of War 2
Gears of War 3
Fable II
Forza Horizon; 4 and 3 were also excellent, but more of the same
Project Gotham Racing 4
Viva Pinata 2 Trouble in Paradise (especially if you have kids who'll be playing)
Kameo

[Edit] Almost forgot Halo Wars. If you've ever enjoyed a RTS you owe it to yourself to play this.
