So I was at Circuit City this morning and asked the person there about their next shipment/allocation of 360s (as I do at pretty much every store I go to these days).  Instead of the usual 'we dunno, hopefully by Christmas, it's up to MS' answer I get everywhere else, the person claimed that Microsoft has issued a recall on all shipped 360s "because they had problems with crashing and overheating" and they were told by MS to now expect their next shipment in January at the earliest.

So was this just another clueless employee, or is there really something to all of these rumblings?  I know that of all the San Diego Targets, WalMarts, Toys-R-Us, Best Buys, Costcos, Fry's, Gamestops, and EBs that I have called, none have received a second shipment even though MS keeps claiming they are sending out new shipments every week....

Guess I'll have to see what happens at Best Buy on the 18th.

Many stores here in the pittsburgh area have received second shipments and sold out quickly.  There is no recall on the 360's, the monkey at CC was just clueless.

Clueless employee.  I guarantee if there were an actual recall you would see it on our front page.

Maybe I should live in Japan - it seems the availability there is a wee bit better....

FWIW, I heard the same thing from a Best Buy employee. However, just this weekend my local Costco got 72 more units in (which, of course, sold out in a couple of hours).

I would be very surprisd if they had a major recall of 360s.  There's just too much to lose with a major release like this.  I don't buy it.

Thanks for the opportunity to use one of my favorite sayings:  "You pay peanuts, you get monkeys!"

What's up with Costco getting so many, anyway? 72? Most pre-sells haven't even reached to number 72 - and that's only one shipment for Costco... wtf?  :?

Sounds bunk to me. Then again, I had no idea the disk scratching was as bad as I thought it was, though that's mostly a problem of user error. Man, sounds like they jammed a GI Joe into a weed whacker.

Hate to sound like Mr. Obvious here, but running the thing vertical never made sense to me and has caused numerous issues with the PS2 in the past, so I don't see how this would be different.  In addition, I'm thinking re-orienting the system would constitute 'misuse' of it and the resulting scratches seem like a no brainer.

Here is a thought - just play the game, stop trying to swing the system around like a party favor while its spinning?  Eh? Eh? Whatcha think?

Rough translation at what the idiot at CC meant:

"Get the fuck out of my store! I'm sick and fucking tired of being asked if we have Xbox 360s in stock!"
