XBMC mod. Who's done it?

I have an original Xbox sitting around. I'm thinking of adding XBMC to it for our upstairs tv. Has anyone done it? Google sez I need a copy of Splinter Cell or MechAssault or something. I have an Action Replay laying around somewhere. Is it as easy as they say?

I did it a couple of years ago.  If you can understand and follow the directions posted online, it is very doable.  I used it quite a bit for a few years, but now a days I use a mythtv box.

Tell me more. Everything I see is requiring a game as mentioned above, Action Replay (which I have) and a bunch of downloads. I'm just trying to save a trip out to buy a game ($$ is tight).

I did it a while ago with Mechassault (OG not GOTY version) and a save game install. Hardest part was cutting and splicing a controller extender so that I could mod its end to USB to plug into my PC for the save game transfer. That was simple wire wrapping. Then when running the save just make sure you read what choices to make. The harder part is installing a bigger HD. I think both the basic mod and new HD are probably much easier now since I know there have been updates to the install pack I used since then.

I did it several years ago with a copy of MechAssault, a memory card, and some mem card -> USB adapter.  Worked well enough, though I'm sure there are better ways to go about doing it these days.

I installed a modchip, which was easy as well.
