So say various sources, including Gamespot.  That's the Tuesday before Thanksgivng.   12/2 for Europe and 12/10 for Japan.  Supposedly already in production.

Better than Black Friday.

Well, Oblivion isn't in the release list, so Hetz instantly lost interest!

It isn't?

I see no release list.

Oblivion is shipping on 11/21, so it's a launch title....just like I said it would be!

that list isn't a release list.

Chromehounds was just announced, I doubt it's coming out release date (or we would have heard about it sooner).

Gears of War is a 2006 title.

That list is just the games they're showing at the game expo. (read it slywink )

reading is hard!

Ok, so maybe Oblivion IS a release title. Cue the slavering fanboyism (myself included, so that's not perjorative).

Yeah, now I'd like to see a final launch game list so I can feel good about pre-ordering some games.  I notice Dead or Alive 4 is not on the list of games to be shown at TGS...maybe they just overlooked it?

Oblivion or Perfect Dark Zero not being there doesn't surprise me given Japan isn't hot on US developed RPGs or FPS games at all.

Microsoft also announced Japanese pricing of Xbox 360. Japan doesn't get the Ghetto version of the 360 as an option?

Yep, makes you wonder if MS might be eliminating the Core System...maybe they'll make 1 copy of it just so they can tug onto the $299 price point...heh.

Nice compromise. This way, everyone'll avoid the dreaded Black Friday rush, we'll get it just in time for thanksgiving here in the US of A, and Oblivion has enough time to become a launch title.

Now I want to know whether Project Gotham Racing 3 is one, or not.

This means I get to buy my Xbox 360, play with it for a couple hours, then fly off to St. Louis for Thanksgiving and leave it to gather dust all weekend long.

You could always skip visiting the family this year. I mean, what's more important - a new console, or visiting the people you've grown up with all your life? biggrin

Good one, Destructor!  After all, we already know what the family looks and sounds like... and priorities are a must in life.

Luckily, my family is all coming here, so all I have to do is get them out of the damn house!  We also decided to "restaurant it" this year, so all I have to do is suffer through the meal, then offer my house for coffee and dessert - and then either kick them out, or use the "let me show you the incredible graphics  that are out now" ruse.

So, is this set in cement?  Is it really the 22nd?  And where (and when) is the most important component of it - Oblivion? If it's likely to be close to launch date, I'll play demos or rentals until it comes out, and pick up Kameo or Perfect Dark later.  They'll be much cheaper by the time I'm done with Oblivion!  Tongue

Isn't Rare a UK developer? slywink

I wouldn't be surprised if the games ARE being shown; they're just not headliners in that market.

So here's the $449 + tax question:  Do you buy a 360 just to play Oblivion at a decent FPS, despite how depressingly bland the previous XBox's library was to you?

Well, my PC will be enough to run Oblivion (at least, it better be), so I'm buying the console for all of the other games that'll be coming out for it. Oddly enough though, all I'm intending to buy are Rare's games at launch.

Look at that lighting! Look at those perfect, real-life graphics! There's nothing the Xbox 360 can't do! biggrin

Since I'm not big on anime-style graphics, or "traditional" RPG's, and don't do PC games - I didn't find the previous XB library to be at all bland.  Also, whenever I had the choice, I took the XBox version over the PS2 and found them to be superior (ie, the pop-up horizons in the PS2 "GTA: SA" version were just horrible).  And, Halo and Morrowind were enough to get the original Box for, IMO - plus I have/ had exclusives or better versions of: Kotor 1 and 2, Fable; Oddworld Oddyssee (vastly underrated game!);  Arx Fatalis; LOTR series;  Deus Ex; Silent Hill 2 and 4; Riddick;  Doom 3; Pirates of the Caribbean;  GTA VC;  Jade Empire; Thief 3;   Castle Wolfenstein; Max Payne... I'll go look in the den if you need more titles.

So, my answer would be - absolutely!  I'd buy it for Oblivion alone, but I also plan on playing Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Halo 3, and several others.  Since I tend to buy consoles for the long-term, and then pick from the games available - I doubt I'll be disappointed.  Heck, I've only played about 8 or 10 games on the Cube, but almost any two were worth the price of the console.

This is partly due to the fact that I'm definitely a console gamer - I spend my money on all the consoles instead of one PC - and the fact that I don't buy one for one game, sell it, buy it again, sell it again, etc., which seems to be fairly common here!  Buy one early or fairly early, keep it, and play whatever comes along that interests you... saves money in the long run!

Well, the truth of the matter is, I'm 99% sure that Oblivion is going to run/look like crap on my laptop.  So it's just stupid of me to spend $400+ on computer upgrades when I could just buy a 360, which is something like seventy billion times more powerful than the laptop I game on.

This would be a much easier choice if the PS3 had (projected) release date.  But I can see waiting at least a year for that, easy.

Man, I am really excited for some of the other games LE, so I guess I cant really objectively say. I think its a better deal for you either way, since you get oblivion, an incredibly powerful system with the ability to play many other games, some of which I am sure you will like. So yeah, get it, espeically if there is a system seller for you.

On top of that, it's a DVD player, media hookup for mp3s, etc. I can't say it's a bad deal given that you're going to play games on it.

The 11/22 date makes me really wonder if the "delay until Oblivion" rumors were correct.  Otherwise, why not launch on 11/15, which is the anniversary date of Xbox, Halo, Halo2?

At this point you could argue that Oblivion and PGR3 are the top two titles people are interested in, with Perfect Dark Zero as a popular "might as well" title.  I'm basing that only on what I'm seeing reserved at the store I work at, though.
