did anybody see the re4 spoof on x-play? it was pretty funny. they did "a day in the life of the merchant". he was hanging out in the x-play office, going up to the staff and bugging them. my favorite part was when one guy buys a cupcake snack, goes back to his cubey and the merchant is standing there and says "what are you eat'n?".

if anybody knows where a video of this can be found, let me know. i'd like to see it again.

X-Play sucks. Some of the stuff they did in the past was funny because they would draw the humor from the game being reviewed/previewed. Their review of Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness was hilarious, as they completely mocked all of the games flaws.

Now it just seems like they just stick in random bits of schtick in each review that has nothing to do with anything. All of the recurring characters/skits that they do weren't funny to begin with and I have no idea why they think flogging them to death will make them funny.

Now, I'm not  asking the show to play it straight, but it's hard to take the show seriously when their skits dominate a review. They had a review of Silent Hunter III last night with at least half of the review devoted to some weird hand-drawn animation skit that wasn't funny and didn't illustrate any good or bad points about the game.

At least the RE4 segment you mentioned  was a separate skit and not shoehorned into a review of a different game. Makes it easy to fast forward through it.

Old skit. Thats like the third time they've replayed it in the last few months. X-Paly is the only thing watchable on G4 now.

i'm not crazy about the show, i just liked the re4 skit. i think electric playground is the worst of the worst review shows though. one of those two guys tries to say something nice about every game. i am sorry, catwoman was awful! even if you polish a turd it is still just a shiny turd.

X-Play is hardly watchable, in my opinion.  Used to be, but now it is 1>Dork says something 2>Slut says something in a childs voice that is trying to be sadistic 3> Dork looks away in a dorky way.

Oh, come on.  I find X-Play highly amusing.  And I've seen both Sessler and Webb on other G4 shows besides X-Play: they're most certainly not morons all the time, they only act like one on X-Play because that's their schtick.

And the best RE4 "feature" was the one on all the hidden and extended modes in the game where they used kittens to cover up the gore.  I'm a huge cat lover, and I was still laughing hard the entire time.

I love X-Play, I love Victor Lucas... and, yeah, there's not much else on G4 these days since Screen Savers "went away" (although Kevin Rose is great, there's not much else there anymore.)  And why the hell would I want to watch someone install something in the undercarriage of a car, when I've tuned in for video gaming shows?  What's up with that?

I somehow missed the RE4 gig, but will watch for it.  No doubt I'll see it soon, since everything gets repeated on G4, to death.

Personally, my favorite G4 show is CINEMATECH~! Man, I love that, though they need to quit piping in crappy music.

I really enjoy Cinematech.  They do a nice job of mixing in the new and old and often have some good themed shows.

As for X-Play, I find it amusing at times.  I'm certainly NOT watching it for their game reviews, but I think some of their skits are pretty funny.  Sure they are lowbrow, but being a game geek it's nice to see my hobby getting some laughs (however juvinile).  The reviews of the bad games are often comedy gold.

I don't watch much else except Icons, which is an excellent show.  The latest one I saw, with Tim Shaffer, showed the development cycle of Psychonauts intertwined with his histoy in gaming.  Well done.

X-Play was good when it was called Extended Play. Now it's just lame. Adding Morgen and the whole "Xtreme" vibe w/ the announcer and camera angles.  Also used to watch that gadgets show...I forget what it was called, but it was hosted by Sumi Das(?). Also Screensavers every so often.

The only thing I watch from G4 anymore is Icons, which is great and for half hour you'd think you're watching a worthwhile channel. I'm not sure why, but they haven't screwed the show up yet. What's taking so long? ;)

X-Play is kinda fun to watch although there doesn't seem to be much substance to the show.  I'm not sure I trust their review scores either.  Recently I was watching them review a game, pointing out all of these flaws.  They made it sound not fun at all and then gave it a 3 out of 5.  Wha...?!

The only problem with Icons is its sense of pacing.  For example, they'll spend twenty mintues talking Richard Garriot's design process in creating Akalabeth in 1978, and then end the show by saying, "...and then twelve Ultima games were released.  The End."

Icons desperately needs to be extended to a full hour.  Even if they refuse to cover some of the more rancorous events in the gaming industry like the less-than-cordial split between Richard Garriot and Electronic Arts, I have a hard time believing there are no interesting andecdotes to share about the development of those Ultima games.

I'm pretty sure the Tim Schafer (spelled his name right this time!) episode I watched was an hour long.  They went into his past games in nice detail and tied it all in with the making of Psychonauts.  I don't know if they plan on keeping the hour-long format of if this was a one-time deal due to the "Final Days of Psychonauts" stuff tacked on.

I agree, if it were an hour long it would be a much better show.

On Icons, I agree on all counts.  The episodes I've watched seem to focus too heavily on early history and not enough on the later stuff.   It goes into great detail, then "all this happened over the next 10 years".  Ugh.  It's such a tease!
