 I've been watching vidoes of this, and I finally know why this doesn't feel right in those videos coming towards release.

It looks like a waste of the setting.

I now understand what people were talking about for Resistance 2 in terms of environment. Here you have an early 1960s game, with all the trappings. The art design looks absolutely gorgeous for the segments where they firmly entrench it in that era. However, as soon as you're in mission, you might as well be in a crappy Mass Effect knock off because everything's generic steel plates with vaguely alien designs.

The weaponry and abilities are the worst offenders.

played through the first mission.  it's not horrible, but the AI isn't brilliant in some cases.  Had one of my squad emptying his gun into a wall to shoot at some distant enemies instead of aiming for ones that were more in his field of fire.  still, it has a Mass Effect vibe so far, and while it has the obvious set-ups that are typical of a take cover and shoot game (conveniently placed cover or areas you end up defending are well stocked with guns and ammo) I'm having fun.
