Cool! I will still be looking for either many favorable impressions or a demo before I touch this one. I might be willing to overlook some bugs, but only if they actually have a real flight model.

I thought this was kinda neat, when looking at the scale of some of these crafts. Over here, you have a little spaceman being VERY close to an engine of a spacecraft. It's the little speck close to the inner circle of the engine, incase you can't spot it. And here you have an image of the actual ship itself, where this behemoth of a burner belongs to. I mean, that's pretty damn big.

Is there really a game this time? That's my question.... Tried X2 and got bored as hell pretty fast trying to make pennies when i couldn't afford a damn thing without thousands or millions.

Aside from the flight model issues, I thought X2 was pretty good. It was a great space trading game. I never played very far into the main story. I'm hoping that x3 improves on x2's weak points and makes the trading system deeper.

One of my favorite space sims in recent memory. An excellent, underrated gem of a game. So yes

Begin flames. I liked it too. I'm thinking about picking it up again to see what some of the mods are like. Now, you really want to see flames: I loved the simplified controls FL had. That's what sold the game for me.

One site to get mods and stuff for freelancer is Lancer's Reactor, which has everything from hints, TONS of mods, new ship skins, and other stuff. The theories abound in the forums about picking up the title and making a sequel, but everyone's pretty realistic about it not happening. Yes, I do agree...the ease of control let you focus on the fun stuff, whether it was tractoring in an escape pod or blasting ships to kingdom come. Way fun.

Just got back from the shops and am about to install X3, feedback to follow. I will be *extremely* interested in hearing your impressions. Speaking as someone who thoroughly enjoyed X2: The Threat despite it's intially mind-bendingly difficult interface, I'm anxious to hear how the sequel feels. Also, I played Freelancer from beginning to end, and I had a great time doing so. I've never felt particularly inclined to reinstall it, but I still got my money's worth. -Autistic Angel Edited to add: It looks like there will soon be a patch available for X3 which will take it up to version 1.2. Here are the listed fixes: There are several fixes and enchancements that are included in this update (some of which you will not even have tried yet), the main ones of which are:
- added support for more joystick models - fixed random CTD on entering a sector - voice and audio syncronisation fixed - performance optimisations including reduced memory consumption and shader enhancements - gamestart position modified to improve trading options at the start - complex construction of factory positioning improved - Tool tips added to assist in learning the menu Icon System - added ability to scroll menu bars with mouse - docking made easier, plus additional docking guide added - plot gameplay improved in key game parts - cut scenes re-produced, re-directed and optimised - added content for infostation help dialogues

OK initial impressions, Graphics are superb, loooks and feels very very good even without any cockpits. The 1.2 patch makes a massive difference and i`m sure 1.3 will imnprove things even more.
It still feels massive, just like it did when you played X2 lots to do and see straight away and i found it initially confusing but soon overcame that. It comes with a 90 page manual that isn`t too bad really.
OK to the flight model, much improved, feels pretty good, less collusions more realistic to me(using a Microsoft ff 2 joystick as well).
The interface is a lot better and much easier easier too use.
Only managed an hour or 2 of play so far but things are looking good.

I'll give this a little bump, since some time has now passed, and I figure the early adopters have gotten in some decent playtime.
How is it? Good, bad, wait for the next patch?

Spent some time yesterday with the 1.2.1 patch applied - performance is much much better.
I think I'm beginning to turn the learning curve now, and it helps immensely that I've remapped my gamepad successfully.
I've gone from being neutral, to thinking I really quite like it now; it's certainly growing on me.

I just picked it up today. I was a little disappointed that the only copy EB had was the cd-rom version (or is that the only version released in the US?). I’m going to try and see if I can build up my own Firefly-esque ship and specialize in the delivery and acquisition of “highly marketable goods”. I haven’t played a free form space exploration/trading game since Elite, and I loved Elite. I was even one of the nerds that took a photo of my elite status to mail in lol.
