The actual confirmation info is towards the bottom. "After a fan speculated that the [job] openings were simply for Wrath of the Lich King--announced during this year's BlizzCon as the second expansion to WOW--a Blizzard community representative for the first time officially confirmed that Blizzard was working on a new MMOG."

"No, it is an unannounced next-gen MMO," said the rep. "And that doesn't mean an expansion for World of Warcraft either."

Great, its going to be so difficult to resist getting into this game after finally putting a nail in the coffin that was my WoW addiction. I hope by the time this comes out I'm super wealthy and no longer have to work.

World of Call of Duty?

I'll go with World of World of Warcraft, in which we level up MMOs to 60 in a safe closed beta environment until we get strong enough to release and then PvP in the free market battlegrounds.  Guilds will be replaced by parent companies, and after several years time all the WoWoW players will end up under just two or three huge consortiums.  The early gameplay is a bit boring as you grind through patches for 10-20 levels, but once you start unlocking expansion packs and subscription models it flows a lot more smoothly.  Just make sure you save enough money on the side to buy an epic cross-platform mount when you get high enough.

Yep, we can be pretty sure it's either World of Starcraft or Diablo the MMO.

Blizzard doesn't make new IPs these days.  Not that it's a bad thing.

I can't imagine it being a Diablo MMO.  Another fantasy MMOG?  No thanks.

I did hear something recently (interview, I think?) where Blizzard mentioned they were working on a new IP.  ...or was that Bioware?  Damn, my memory stinks.

I think "World of Worldcraft" would have a better ring to it.  unibrow

I don't really see the point of WoW with Starcraft skins ("Let's go farm zerglings!") -- but doing something more innovative than that would require Blizz to do something new (their rep is doing great things with ideas that other people already pioneered).

My SC dream is more of a Battlefield: Starcraft or Planetside: Starcraft game that is friendlier to a less hardcore FPS audience but lets you control all those wonderful SC units. I'm partial to driving a Goliath myself.  icon_cool

While I don't see a Diablo MMO doing much of anything fresh either, you could argue that would be a way for them to corner the more "casual" MMO market that doesn't want to pay $15 a month or participate in all-night raid events.

Dungeon Runners and maybe Hellgate: London are trying to do that, but I think Blizzard could do something more polished and more fun that would blow both those games (and Flagship's Mythos) out of the water. So that's officially what my bet is on. smile And I'm always wrong on these things, so consider the source.  icon_lol

As much as WoW seems to be some "just take a strategy game idea and turn it into an MMO" touchstone, Command & Conquer: Renegade should also be a warning totem to anyone thinking that's easy to pull off.  icon_neutral

I guess on the plus side of a Diablo MMOG, at least they could stick a fork in all the half-baked Diablo clones by giving people a real Diablo game.  Although I personally don't think anyone is going to want to spend $15/mo on it.

I so want this to not be true.

I'm not sure I'm up for years and years of people being completely unable to shutup about yet another MMO.

But that's exactly what will happen if Blizzard makes another one.

Amazing what a name can do for you. Blizzard just have to announce something and people start planning their lives around it.

No! I let WoW destroy three months of my life. If I had kept playing, I'd be 50 pounds heavier, divorced, and living out of a box.

Must resist urge to even read these threads!

Just imagine what would happen to the people that get addicted to both of Blizzard's MMOPRG's at the same time! Spontaneous combustion.

I don't think Mass Effect is a very strong franchise yet, maybe after the trilogy is released. Besides, if Blizz makes a World of Starcraft it would kill any other space-based MMO.

I'm betting this new MMO is based on Diablo, Starcraft 2 is still going to sell millions as a RTS but Diablo might be overshadowed by WoW.

actually World of Starcraft makes sense.  We had Warcraft 3 setup World of Warcraft, and now Starcraft 2 would be the perfect setup for WoS!

I can't even begin to speculate on whether it'll be based on Starcraft, Diablo or a new IP. But for sure it'll steal every creative and innovative idea from every decent MMO since WoW. Oh, and the multimillion fans who instantly thrill to it will call it the most creative, original and refreshing MMO since WoW.  Tongue

The thing is unless you have played the games WoW is based on and lets be honest most haven't it will be original for them. 12 million subs, how many of them will have played other MMO's, very few hence your comment (even tongue in cheek) doesn't work  Tongue
