Now with Live games like this do I need a "Gold" membership to play on line or will "Silver" do?

You need a "Gold" membership for anykind of multiplayer on Xbox Live, except FF11.

You can buy anything with a silver membership - you just can't play against other people online.  The only other difference between silver and gold is that some demo downloads are available to gold members first (I think it's a week difference).

Yes, but also keep in mind that hotseat Worms > online Worms.  You can't punch your friends online.

edit:

Confirmed - hotseat supported!

really on the hotseat? i thought this was cut?

or is it just hotseat WHILE ALSO playing against others online?

or is it possible to play with say 4 teams, 2 on the same 360 together, 2 others on live?

It's a new iteration - I'm sure it shares code with previous versions, but it's not a straight port of anything.

When OXM reviewed this a month or two ago they gave it a 7.5 and said it was a bit cheap on the content, like only including 3 backgrounds or so and not having all of the signature weapons.  Unfortunately I think I tossed that issue so I can't relay exactly what it was they knocked it for.

Yeah - there's definitely some stuff missing (super sheep, and the holy hand grenade come to mind).  Team 17's committed to additional downloadable content, so we'll have to see if they beef up the weapon count.

Depends on whether or not the additional content comes with an additional pricetag.  Also how much it feels like they left out.

<shrug> who am I kidding I'll be buying and playing this come wednesday.

Hahaha, do you actually think they would leave out fundamental elements to the series only to give them away later?  That is not how things are done in the era of microtransactions, silly boy!  (well, at least until they get the appropriate amount of negative backlash and then backpedal on the next set)

I was thinking about that problem earlier:  you can't sell extra weaponry to some portion of the player-base that advantages them over their opponents.  Well, you can, but that'd be a really bad decision because it would cause an arms race that'd either force people to pony up or quit the game.  Alternately, you fracture the players between groups with the new weapons and groups without.

Uno seemed to handle additional decks by allowing people who didn't own them to still play in games hosted by someone with the deck - that same method could work for Worms.

Found a few notes supposedly from the official boards:

Quote

Spadge has talked about this on the Team17 boards a bit. Basically:

- Team17 cut things like extra sound banks and terrain types so they could squeeze the core game elements into 50mb.

- Things like extra sound banks and terrain types will be available as content downloads.

- Some of these content downloads will be free, some of them will be paid for (Spadge emphasized that they don't want another Lumines fiasco, so expect reasonable prices).

- You will not see extra weapons as a content download, as this would be a nightmare to implement on the network/balance sides of things (what if one person has the weapons and one doesn't?)

Dear 50mb limit, thanks for making them shove more stuff into microtransaction territory.  Really.

Yay for not having to buy weapons via the marketplace, but boo that this means we shouldn't expect sheep to be coming. frown

They should offer the weapons as free content downloads then, no splintering the user base if they are free.

Ah, well that's a relief, but yeah, I'll miss flying around that little caped wonder.

Here's wikipedia's take on the weapon list:

Bazooka, Homing Missile, Grenade, Cluster Bomb, Banana Bomb, Dynamite, Air Strike, Shotgun, Uzi, Fire Punch, Dragon Ball,

Prod, Blowtorch, Land Mine, Sheep, Kamikaze, Ninja Rope, Girder, Jet Pack, Teleport, Skip Go, Surrender

What other favorites are missing besides the holy hand grenade?  No homing pigeon...no baseball bat?

I thought they raised the limit on XBLA games?  If there really is no baseball bat then I don't think I'm spending 800pts on this one.

They did just raise the limit, but I'm just guessing Worms wasn't built with the new size in mind.

Yeah I'd read that it was happening.

Combination of Graw2 being out this week and, if true, the lack of baseball bat will keep the points in my bank.

Look at it this way: I can't accidently shoot anyone in the back in Worms

Well, maybe in team worms I could.  Hmmm.....  (thinks a moment)

I want Soulchilde on my team!

So this hits on Wednesday for sure, then?

I see that 4 player multiplayer (versus) is supported.  Does that include 2 vs 2 matches?  Anyone know?  LINK

If so:
Me and my partner challenge ALL COMERS!  (assuming someone wants to team up with a person that is just as likely to shoot them as the opponents - one of the disadvantages of having my charming personality is dealing with my bad aim.)  icon_biggrin

Our team name shall be...   Hmm... I'll have to think about that part.

BUT - I can tell you I will be fielding some of the most powerful oldschool WWF Worms ever to lift a shotgun.  Whatcha gonna' do when Hulkamania and the 23" pythons run wild on you!"

Can not WAIT!
