$300 to play the latest and greatest Nintendo titles (along with other exclusive stuff)? I know I will not be buying this at launch.
I got burned on my 3DS (which then I sold anyway and got an iPad instead for my portable gaming), and have no intention on jumping in head first with this.

Just cancelled the AC Liberation Vita bundle I had preordered so I'm in for the premium (figured two new systems in a month or so would just be silly). Don't see any place doing preorders yet though.

I look at this thing and a a see a repackeged Wii with a touchscreen controller. Also 8GB?? So much for a digital future from Nintendo.
Graphics are far better than Wii. As for the memory size, if they allow SD cards (not sure if they will or not, but you would think they would so that people can get their stuff from the Wii), then the built-in size doesn't matter. That depends on how screwy Nintendo is with SD cards this go 'round. Storage: Wii U uses an internal flash memory (8 GB with the Basic Set; 32 GB with the Deluxe Set) for data storage. It also supports SDHC memory cards and external USB storage.

Since you can use removable storage with the WiiU, I imagine that is how you'd do it. Keep in mind, though, that not all saves can be moved (some games lock this). Not sure what they're going to do with stuff bought int he Wii store as traditionally that has been locked to the console itself. They've really not said anything about it.

The publisher also revealed a few dozen other titles that will be available in the Wii U's "launch window," which spans from November 18 to the end of March 2013. Also, there are now over 50 games announced for the launch window. As for the price, while I don't think it's that unreasonable if they had priced each version $50 less they could have dominated the Christmas rush market. The $300+ price range is a whole different (mental) price bracket and is going to change a lot of impulse buys to wait and see buyers.

I have preordered 2 of them. I did so predicting that there might be shortages at launch and I can resell one of them. Contributing factors for me to risk this purchase:
1. Global launch 2. Only console launching this year 3. Traditional console shortages at launch

This will sell like gangbusters for the holiday but I'm out at $350. Think they priced this too high. I'm anticipating a price cut or some significant bundles before too long after release (6-months). Especially if Microsoft/Sony annouce new consoles at E3 in July.
We'll see.

pre-ordered one, but in event of crazy resell prices it could theoretically be resold. surprised it is not up on Amazon; as a matter of fact their place holder listing suddenly disappeared a while back as I had a product availability alert set for it and it's not there anymore.

Kotaku has a look at the TVii functionality. If I understand correctly, the genius thing here (sure to be copied - and I think MS was planning something like this already) is that it will incorporate all of your subscriptions. So, for example, if you're looking to watch an episode of Modern Family, it'll show you if it's available on Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Instant or live television or your Tivo. You just click on the icon for what you want to watch and your in. If it compiles a running list of everything in my various queues, I will be all over this. So much more convenient than going into each program and figuring out what I want to watch. By the time I've gone into Netflix, I don't have the energy to see what's on Amazon or Hulu. My only drawback is with Tivo. I just hope it works with my cable box, too. Knowing Cablevision, I doubt it.

I'm going to play Devil's Advocate for a moment. Why would this be a hot seller? The fact that it is the only launch this year (as already mentioned) may help, but who is the market for this thing? The Wii sold like hotcakes because there hadn't been anything like it before, and it appealed to the mass market in a special way (by transforming games into play, as Bill Harris would say). For that reason, the Wii transcended the traditional gaming market, just as the DS did. They aren't going to attract a significant portion of gamers that didn't have a Wii, because the graphics aren't going to leapfrog PS3/360 quality. I also don't seen them pulling in the mass market types that bought a Wii before, especially since most of those bought the system for Wii Sports and Wii Play, right? They must sell outside the core Nintendo audience to be successful, and I don't see why that would happen here.

Same reason they didn't include blu-ray or DVD playback. Although with the money they saved by skipping out on a pretty much necessary feature of any entertainment system they should have been able to pass those savings on to the consumer. Honestly, unless you have a lot of money to throw around, I don't know why anyone would choose the Wii U when they could get the PS3 for $50 - $100 less which adds a 3D blu-ray player, dvd playback, and a hard drive. (Not to mention the more established HD game library.) I still have friends at work who have tried putting dvd's in their wii's only to find out it won't play them. I want to like Nintendo, but they always seem to be two steps behind the competition when it comes to delivering hardware.

Or are they being progressive by saying that you can only watch non-gaming entertainment through digital means, which is really where things are going. I don't buy DVDs anymore. I know that I'm not in the majority on that one, but I don't care that the WiiU won't have a drive for watching movies.

Just got my pre-order in. I also pre-ordered Mario. I'm gonna wait until the other titles get more concrete release dates before I throw any more money at it. Definitely picking up Pikmin 3, though. That Nintendo TVii, besides the absolutely stupid name (it's like they knew it was stupid with the way they announced it), looks fantastic. This is the Nintendo I love to see. The Nintendo that takes an idea and tweaks it to make it distinctly Nintendo.

I think I heard that "launch window" stretches out to March of next year. While it's a bit of a stretch, it's nice to know there will at least be a steady stream of games coming out.

Is this thing backward compatible with regular Wii games?
Wii Compatibility: Nearly all Wii software and accessories can be used with Wii U. How do I go about moving info from the Wii to the Wii U? From a Wired interview: More importantly, you will have the ability to transfer data from Wii to Wii U. This includes game save data, and the Virtual Console games you have purchased. I found more info from another site: Wii U owners can wirelessly transfer content such as Miis, and WiiWare and Virtual Console games to their Wii U systems. Both systems will need to be connected to the Internet and the Wii U will need an SD card to facilitate the transfer. The process is very similar to transferring content from Nintendo DS to Nintendo 3DS or from Nintendo 3DS to Nintendo 3DS XL

I cut back my DVD/blu purchases to movies I know I'll watch often, otherwise I re-sub to Netflix DVD every 6 months or so for one month and catch up on stuff that isn't on instant, but watching movies on disc is what my blu ray player is for. the TVii functionality could switch my Netflix Instant watching away from the 360 if it does indeed compile Amazon Instant in with it in one playlist though. I forgot that I had a bunch of Gamestop credit when I pre-ordered, but I guess I can use that for some games.

I'm going to pass on this for a bit. First, I'm going to have a little rugrat, and that tablet controller will be EXPENSIVE to replace if he decides to put it in his mouth or poop on it. That's the only reason, though. Aside from that, love the price, love the feature set, love the integration with live TV, just dig it.

I'd be out of my mind to go get one of these. i'll have to live vicariously through Ceekay's non-stop postings about zombieU instead.

One word,Gimmick!! That Touch Screen Pad will bring them in,which funnily enough is the main reason i am avoiding this having been disappointed for the first time in a Nintendo Console with the Wii With the Wii having motion play, the DS having two screens, the 3DS being two screens with 3D,and now the Wii U with this touch pad thing, its all Nintendo know now..it's fine for trying to do something different but it means i get bored of their gimmicks after a week or two at the most(Like i did with the Wii)

One word,Gimmick!! Perhaps, but the Wii had a gimmick no one had seen before. Touchscreens are damn near ubiquitous these days.

I'll win. Although, I'll be honest... If you're passing for a bit, you don't win (or do you?). I'll be in at launch.

Preorders on this are already selling out. Supposedly tomorrow is the last day to preorder at Gamestop and Amazon is telling people that they won’t carry the console, only the games.

Amazon won't carry the console *ever*, or just won't carry it pre launch? wouldn't surprise me if it is going to be the former. it seems all new Nintendo consoles and handhelds are being sold by third parties on Amazon now.

Yeah, I deleted my post just after I went on Google and did some research. I guess I have to decide if I really want one of these badly enough pre launch to order one from Best Buy (no way I'm ordering it from Gamestop).
