Is freaking me the heck out! Seriously, what is wrong with Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl!?

If you can get over the blatant theme of child abuse and the strange feeling the game is all about abortion, this is a pretty interesting Zelda-Roguelike. But I can't help thinking McMillen is petrified of babies (seriously, the bad guy of Super Meat Boy is a fetus in a jar).

Also... piles of crap and giant files.

Huh, I could have sworn that we had a thread on this, but search didn't find one.

I am sure some people really dig his aesthetic, but I am somewhat put off by everything having to be edgy and gross just to be different.  Anyway, I'm excited to try out a new rogue-like from Edmund McMillen.

It's certainly edgy and gross. And certainly deals with child abuse in an "in your face" manner. It's also hard as crap and you can't save or even quit to save your progress (there are only 5 or so smallish levels).

Yeah, I guess they take the "rogue-like" title to heart.  A little too much for my liking.  Pretty much a waste of $5 to me I think.

It's rouge-like as far as the random dungeons, items, and absolute death, but the combat is all real time and you are able to move around freely and shooting as you go.  I was able to map the controls using xpadder to my controller and it plays more like a twin stick shooter.

The theme of the game is partly based on the story of Isaac in the Bible where God told Abraham to sacrifice his son to prove his loyalty to God, I'm not sure if they are trying to make light of that or not, but the story is very odd and weird.

I played for about an hour and never made it past the 3rd level of the basement.  It's 250Mb so it should have a lot of content and the music is pretty good so I may buy the soundtrack for .88 before Oct. 4.

anyone playing Rebirth? it's worth getting if you liked the original - there's enough new content and such to make it still interesting (Steam says i've now put about 100 hours into the remake.) funny thing is i've gotten so used to the keyboard controls that i still don't use the (now-included) gamepad support - i find the keyboard is more accurate. very important when trying to get that coin in between the floor spikes...

I play it on the vita but beyond random mobile gaming, I don't spend a lot of time with it.

finally found out there's a new secret level - i had been spending all my time on the Cathedral/Chest, and didn't know that if you beat Sheol five times you gain access to the "Dark Room" (in the old game, Cathedral and Sheol would go to the Chest - now they separate.) wish i had known that earlier!
