This leaked out early before Gamescom.  Apparently last-gen only and starring a new character (possibly playing as a Templar) with a more AC4 Black Flag approach with the naval aspects.  The trailer up on Polygon mentions a pre-order bonus for a hunter pack and a siege mission.  It's only a cinematic trailer for now with a quick glimpse showing an arctic scene.

Out on 11/11/14 to compete with the next gen version.

Before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, this game was announced some time ago, though without a name. The plan has always been for two Assassin's Creed games to be released this year, one for current-gen and one for last-gen. Rogue, which was tentatively called Comet until just now, is the last-gen version. I imagine it's going to be as vital to the series as Liberation was, which is to say, not much at all.

Unity is the only Assassin's Creed that matters this year, unless you're stuck on a last-gen console for now. Rogue is a bone thrown to those who are.

I think it will be more fully fleshed out than Liberation was though.  It's been suggested that this is the missing years for Haytham before AC3 starts up and deals with his rise through the Templar ranks.  I could see getting this after the new-game smell wears off of Unity, barring any bad reviews.

Of course. They're using the old engine, probably with only minor changes if any. All they have to do is make content. Rogue is likely going to be the equivalent to a long expansion pack from the old days, only at full price instead of expansion price.

The next Game Informer will have more information.

Quote
Rogue places fans in the shoes of a Templar, controlling former Assassin-turned-Templar Shay Patrick Cormac. Employing the popular naval gameplay from Black Flag, you navigate a ship across the frigid North Atlantic. Other locales you visit include the Appalachian River Valley and a reimagined New York. Shay is an assassin hunter who has to be even more clever to outsmart his sneaky foes. This entry takes place during the Seven Years' War, filling in the gap between Black Flag and Assassin's Creed III. We won't spoil much, but it has a crucial link to the Kenway saga. Our exclusive feature gives more insight into Shay, details how the cold waters are different from Black Flag's Caribbean setting, and discusses the tools Shay has at his disposal for outsmarting assassins. The Seven Years' War is part of what lead to France's financial troubles, and it's hinted that Shay has even deeper ties to Unity.

Don't worry, they'll put out a next gen port next year just to give you even more choices for the franchise.  slywink

Unity may have the fancy new engine but as a huge AC IV fan the theme/setting of this Rogue game is more interesting to me than Unity so far.

I pulled up a stream of this on PS3 and it has a huge "Black Flag mod" feel to it, but it also ties in a lot of stories from both III and IV with some times to Unity as well, at least at the historical setting.

Also seen some of the modern stuff and little nods to Far Cry 3 and another AC game, Phoenix Rising.

Looks like a good expansion to AC IV.

Anyone picking this up?

I am planning on getting it when the PC version comes out next year, assuming it's still on Steam of course.  I'm also forcing myself to wait for a sale.
