Yes, I am posting this from my Wii. The browser is a bit clunky, and inexplicably doesn't use the whole screen. No way is this worth spending money on. More later.

(Back at my pc.) Ok, the speed of the thing isn't bad, a pleasant surprise. I am apalled that you can't scroll around with the d-pad, but holding down B and moving the Wiimote works. Annoyingly, while scrolling it likes to auto-unzoom you which I don't like. While typing it likes to help you which has been both helpful and annoying. I just can't believe it doesn't use the entire screen. With screen space being at such a premium as it is, this is retarded. You have to zoom a lot to be able to read as it is. For free, this would be a nice bonus, but I just can't see myself paying for this sort of primitive browsing. Might be fun for zipping to gamefaqs.com when you need a hint perhaps. So thumbs in the middle from me.

yeah i was gonna post from my Wii this morning, but it really is a pain using the onscreen keyboard

its good how you can save favourites an all, like normal....and guess what...porn sites,lol...yup,if you know the address of any,you can go on it,i was expecting them to block adult type sites

anyway the browser really does feel slow and clunky ...if the USB sockets were put to good use and a keyboard could actually work from there, then it could be quite handy for me...but right now,i will just go downstairs and use my PC

Posted from my Wii.  I like it.  Youtube works great.  Keep in mind this is a beta.

My Wii is 15 feet from my PC.  Yea, I don't need another browser, thanks.

Hopefully, they'll fix the zoom levels in the future.  The default's text is unreadable, but zooming in cuts off too much of the screen.  I wish it would stay at the zoom level you choose when changing pages, too.  They should take a gander at the PSP's browser size functions.  I think they work pretty well.

I also hope they'll let you open more than one page at a time in the full version.

Still, I like it.  Text entry is not hard at all for me.  Easier than the hassle of getting out the keyboard and plugging it in every time I want to check something.  Certainly easier than the PSP's browser text entry.  I know I'm going to find this to be convenient in the future.

(At the risk of sounding anti-wii.)

How can the browser have these issues?  Yes it is a beta but web browsers have existed for what, 12 years now?  I won't have my Wii until Monday but can anyone tell me if one can use a USB keyboard with it if I don't want to use the onscreen keyboard?

Played around with it - thought it was pretty neat.  The interface needs a little bit of work, but love how you can YouTube it up.  Also:

I heard really, really bad reviews of the DS brower, and honestly... I think the problem is not the platform, but Opera.

Rather than making a nice, normal, plain browser which just works, they have to do the whole "EXTREME ALTERNATVE BROWSER TAKE THAT MIKRO$$$$$$LOTH... IN YOUR FACE!!11!!!11111onehundredeleven!1!1!" route and try to wow you with their 1337 bro-zar programmin skillz.

Look here, Opera.  Just make the damn browser, get it to display pages so we can read them (a major complaint on the DS browser was the fonts were blurry and hard to read).  Don't try to "impress" people with your browser and it's "features".  The only "feature" should be displaying readable webpages.

It seems crazy that a hacker can throw together a DS homebrew browser which is superior to something Opera expects people to spend money on.  But hey, I guess it's no less crazy than Opera expecting people to pay for a browser when every computer comes with a free one.

Well, look at the extreme hardware limitations of the DS, of course the reviews are going to be bad.

I woudn't say Opera in general is the problem though. I use Opera Mobile (8.60) on my Windows Pocket PC and it's 30x better than the built-in internet explorer mobile.
It does tabs (unlike IE) and gives a near desktop-experience. I've even played a few online web-based games with it. Only thing it doesn't do is YouTube, but then again, NO pocket PC browsers do. (Since the latest supported flash on pocket PC is flash 7 I believe..)

And lets remember people, the final browser is going to be a whopping $5!!

I would say that paragraph is a perfect description of the Wii Opera browser.

I would agree, except the homebrew community HAS a working browser on the DS.  Heck, somebody put together Linux for the DS!

It seems like the only 'limits' are really the skill of the programmer.  And let's be honest here: a browser should be basic as hell to create.  It's just displaying text.

Actually the final browser is free for 4 months. I am using it now and it's not bad but definitely beta

Nice. Hope Microsoft considers explorer in 360 as a response to this. Very good thinking by Nintendo.

You're kidding me.  Why in the world would you put usb ports and a web browser on a console, and then not let you plug in a USB keyboard?  Nintendo never ceases to frustrate me sometimes.

Doesn't Nintendo face the same (or similar) threat then? How are they guarding against it.

I guess there is no threat when you have no online play.  When we see how their online gaming service is going to work I guess we'll find out more.

I am not confident that either Sony or Nintendo will be able to keep online play clean.  Time will tell.  I don't think Microsoft is that much smarter then the other two.  They just have waaaaaaaaaay more experience with hackers and internet security. I don't think you will ever see a web browser on the 360 though.

Since I first booted it up, I've spent some considerable time with the Opera browser.  And I've concluded that for a beta browser on a game system it actually works very well.  Text input is super easy and surprisingly fast, Google video looks awesome, and pages load up quite fast.

This will be very handy when coupled with my 360. I'll be able to play a game on the 360, keep the FAQ up on the Wii, and just flip over when I need to check something. Much handier then walking all the way to the computer room biggrin.

I just got my Wii today. First thing I did was update it and grab the browser.

It worked well enough for me. Youtube certainly does look nice on it, and I watched an entire episode of Frisky Dingo, funny stuff.

How does that work?  I tested out a Tablet PC recently (IBM's Lenovo), and had mixed feelings.

Ah ok.  I was wondering if they had something more exciting than that.

The tablet has some really good handwriting to text, but some of the interface needs work.  The idea of the tablet is to be easier than regular use, which it really wasn't.  Of all the tablet's features, I liked the handwriting the most.
