I just heard via my local Gamestop 'a week and a half' today (for only the Wii). Which places it at next Wednesday.

I don't think Wii preorders will start tomorrow, but I have heard that PS3 preorders will.  Supposedly, Wii preorders will be taken a few days after PS3 preorders.

I'm assuming the preorders are taking place at gamestop? Or is it everywhere? If I can get some extra money together I definitely want to get one or two of them so I can ebay them off and get a motorcycle or something.

i pre-ordered my Wii last week for £20...i am number 79(or 89..cant remember)..anyway they could only take 100 pre-orders because they have no idea how many they are getting in,but at least i have paid 20 quid towards it now

Is this through gamestop, or somewhere else?  I'm only curious because I'm good friends with the manager at the gamestop near my house and she told me at their managers conference last week that they we're informed there would be absolutely no preordering systems of any kind this time around.

GameStop and EB Games will begin accepting limited pre-orders for the PlayStation 3 console on Tuesday, October 10, on a first come, first served basis. Due to extremely limited supply, we expect to deplete this allocation very quickly, most likely in minutes. We will not accept additional pre-orders at this time. To avoid an unnecessary trip we strongly recommend you call your local store to determine availability. A $100 reservation deposit is required, which can be funded with cash, credit or trade. As we cannot control production and shipping issues by the manufacturer, a reservation deposit does not guarantee receipt of a system available to purchase at launch. Reservations/Purchases are limited to 1 per household.

Actually, I heard it earlier today on the IGN and GAF forums. 

Oh and there are reports of people already camping out for the 8 preorders that each store is getting. Well, actually 6, cause 2 are reserved for employees. A couple of stores will be getting 16, but those are few and far between.

Yeah, I drove by Gamestop not too long ago...line already set up.  I would think the huge stores (like in NY and LA) would get more than 16 systems, but who knows.  To me it sounds like they aren't sure of the numbers still, so the same problem last year could resurface.

I'm so glad I don't work there anymore.  If they can't even manage to get solid info to their managers this late in the game about whether or not preorders will be taken, how does that bode for their overall plans for the launch?  Also, I think even getting eight per store may be optimistic.  Again, ever so glad I'm not working there anymore.  Part of me wants to go down to a store tomorrow morning to watch the fun.

I have some friends who are trying to get ahold of one for eBay purposes, and their only store in the area is at a mall (which has both EB and Gamestop in it), which should be opening right about...now.

So, I waited in my car until about 8:45AM and decided to sit in front of the store. About 15 minutes later a couple more people showed up.....and at 9:30AM they let us in to preorder.

I am now #1 on the list at my local EB!

Went around 8:45AM and there were about 4-5 people in line. Started calling people at work to open for me....no answers.... Went to work and waited for first person to come in around 9:30AM and told them I was running out. Got in line and was told they had 13, I was #12. Yay! Walk in and realize that I didn't have my credit card! Sucked it up and put the deposit on debit...

I swung by my local Gamestop on my way into work (hit there at 8:50AM) and there were 7 people in line already. Some of it was definitely a family (had a 10 year old there), and there looked to be one pissed off girlfriend waiting too.

So if you're on the West Coast, you still have time to wait in line.

How many of these preorders are going to eBay though is another matter entirely...

Why buy a console in this day and age at release?  I waited a year to get a 360 and there's still only 5 games I want to play on it before the year is up.

For some folks it's just fun to be an early adaptor. 

I was very glad that I got my 360 on launch day, and I've had a ton of fun with it.  There aren't a ton of games I want to buy right now, but there are quite a few I'd like to rent.

3 reasons off the top of my head:

a) There may be launch games you want to play
b) You have the money and desire
c) The hours of enjoyment you may get out of the system could more than make up for a price drop that may come

Seems to me that you should have waited longer.
