Well, I WAS wearing pants at first, but NOW I'm not. BTW, Nintendo is doing something weird at WarioWorld.com: Posting images with "cafe" in them. No idea what it means. I think they're just screwing with us at this point.

Eel, you might want to make sure you're wearing pants for this. got them on? ok, you'd better be telling the truth. confirmed by the Big N. There will be a playable version of the console at E3, as well as more details about the machine. Confirmed by Kotaku is still rumor. JK. It looks like BC is definitely going to happen, which is smart. Given who their audience is now, they need those parents to see this as an upgrade. EDIT: Actually, thinking about it, I don't know that parents will give a crap about upgrading their kids' Wii.

honestly, their memo on it would make me think it's a joke too if it wasn't on Nintendo's servers.

Assuming that the new system is real, I am not the least bit interested untill I hear of some games I am interested in. I love my Wii (watch it), but still using it for an exercise trainer.

well if it was fake I'm sure Nintendo would have come down on these rumors fairly quickly.

My guess is that it will largely be what people are looking for in a Wii upgrade, with at least one huge, glaring omission.

of course if this has HDMI output I'm going to have to upgrade my TV to get 4 HDMI inputs. of course that could be the glaring omission, or maybe they'll leave out a hard drive.

I'm betting there's not going to be a hard drive in this. It's just a hunch, but I'm guessing Nintendo's not big on the idea of a hard drive that can fail. We'll see, but I can see them forgoing it.

They'll put all the games in the cloud, so there won't ever be a need for a hard drive.

This might be the reason why we haven't heard much about Skyward Sword, they've shifted it over to this new console. And, it sounds like the SDK was kinda designed for that kind of thing.
As good as this system looks on paper, I just can't get that interested in it due to it being a nintendo system. Don't get me wrong, it's going to be great for the Nintendo staple games. But, Nintendo has never handled the core gamer market very well, besides 1-2 they get more by chance.
Which is sad, since I like what I'm seeing with the system. Even if those controllers cost a lot, if I got the system, I'd probably get at least 2, usually getting 4 if it looks like they'll actually support more 4 player games on the same console. This generation 4 player local multiplayer is kind of MIA.

Both the Gamecube and the Wii just gathered dust in my attic. I honestly can't see myself ever buying another Nintendo console. There is nothing they could announce that would get me to buy this.

I think that in-controller screen could be really cool for like Madden (selecting plays) if you are playing locally with someone, but I'm not sure how many other games can make good use of it. It's sort of like how half of DS games use the other screen for a map, which is nice, but not exactly revolutionary.

I'm thinking that's a good assumption, considering they more or less perfected SD storage this gen. That was the most pleasant surprise about the Wii for me, that they even allowed games to be stored on them and provided for more than decent load times. I mean what does a 16GB SD card cost these days - 25, 30 $ or something? I think Big N will continue the SD strategy and work on improving the IO R/W times so that they'll be able to effectively store large content on them. I'll definitely be getting the new Wii, but unlike the N64, Gamecube and Wii it won't be a day 1 purchase for me.

SD card tech is evolving as well. SDHC is capable of 32 GB, higher than the original drives for the lower XBox and PS3 capacities. SDXC is in development and will supposedly have an upper limit of 2 TB. And with that strategy, there's no artificial pricing levels to control storage devices like Microsoft and Sony have hid behind in the past. Memory would be available at market prices, and be one less hardware element that Nintendo would have to worry about supporting in event of a failure.

I also think there's no way Ninty abandons the single-hand motion control scheme. That alone gave them their best sales since the SNES and allowed them to dominate for almost 4 years. I wouldn't be surprised if later on in the Wii 2's life cycle they release an alternative controller with a 3D screen on it, but I don't expect it to be the debut, default device. Count me in as one who thinks that leaked drawing is a fabrication and BS.

Oh, and Skyward Sword IS still happening for the Wii and it's coming this year. On their investor report, Skyward Sword is listed as 2011 in the US, and Cafe is coming in 2012, supposedly.

I believe that was the same scenario as Twilight Princess followed by significant delays and a Wii/'Cube release

so Can 3(similar) consoles exist on the market?...most people go for a Wii and a 360 or a Wii and the PS3
thinking back over the years
and this maybe different for your countries Amstrad/Sinclair Spectrum/Commodore 64 -Amstrad pretty much lost out here i think Sinclair and Commodore were the two big hitters at least in the UK
NES/Master System-anything else that was released i don't remember staying for long
SNES/Mega Drive(Genesis)/Turbo Grafx-16-i don't remember even seeing let alone playing a Turbo Grafx machine
Playstation/Nintendo 64/Sega Saturn-PS1 ran away with it,64 suffered some, but not as much as the Saturn
Playstation 2/Xbox/Gamecube/DreamCast-again PS2 ran away with it,as Xbox gained strength after crappy start the cube really started to suffer with sales, some shops refused to sell it here in the UK after the sales dived..Dreamcast was released much earlier than these, but we know the fate of that machine
what do you think?

People wonder if three consoles can co-exist, but there are very good reasons why some of the up and died.
Genesis/SNES days: No other company had the clout/resources/games to compete with these companies.
PS1/N64/Saturn: This would have been a three-horse race, but Sega's management had a collective aneurysm and did stupid things to hamstring the Saturn.
PS2/Cube/XBox/Dreamcast: The Dreamcast was killed by piracy, and the Cube was killed by not having enough great games for it. Nintendo tried fighting in the big boys' sandbox and ended up with their lip bruised. The PS2 also jumped out to an early lead which gave it the advantage throughout the gen.
I'm generalizing, of course, but the market CAN accept three good consoles. In this gen, we've seen that. The Wii has sold >80 million worldwide, the 360 has sold ~50 million, and the PS3, while not as popular as the 360, has still sold about 40 million units (WAY more than the Cube ever did). The market can handle it now more than ever.

Yup, I don't think there's any argument after this gen about a 3 console market, the question now is could the market sustain 4? I predict next gen a 4th player will wade in - just not sure who that'll be yet. Big N has to be careful in the design of their next console and take that into consideration.

yeah you have both(not you CK)misread what i was asking, not just 'will 3 consoles survive?'
the current 3 consoles is not an example of what i was asking as the Wii is a generation behind due to them releasing the Wii that did not have much over the Gamecube...so can 3 consoles of similar power survive?...people tend to buy either a PS3 and a Wii or a 360 and a Wii
maybe that is why they are releasing their new machine next year,as it will be similar specs to current 360 and PS3,but because it is new, people will buy it,even though they may even have a similar powerful console in the PS3 or 360
and SONY sold its 50millionth PS3 on 29th March roughly 2-3 months behind 360 who announced in January the same figure
