Team Bondi's next game:

Quote
Shanghai, 1936. Whore of the Orient. Paris of the East. The most corrupt and decadent city on the planet, where anything can be had or done for the right price. Plaything of Western powers who greedily exploit the Chinese masses. Boiling pot of Chinese nationalism, with the Kuomintang ruthlessly trying to suppress Communism and the labour movement. Home to the International Police Force, a group of Western cops hopelessly trying to keep the lid on and keep the peace.

it's due out for 'next gen' consoles and the PC, so it is probably a ways off still.  it'll be interesting to see them refine what they did with LA Noire and take it to the next level.

Sounds very promising. I've run a PnP RPG in that same location and era, so I love the setting. Here's hoping it supports fan mods. That way some fan could do a TinTin and the Blue Lotus remake for it, except that this time round the Blue Lotus could be a whore house as well as an opium den.  Tongue

I seriously doubt it will stick around once the publisher gets involved. Only an independently produced project would be able to keep the name.

Looking forward to any game set in this time/place.

That's an awesome name for the game. What if they released it via Steam? You think Steam would object?

A Pew Research Center poll found nearly half of Americans hold the false belief that TARP was passed under President Obama, while only 34 percent know it originated under Bush.
"Oh yeah?" Bush replied. "50% of the people were wrong."

apparently it is now 'former Team Bondi' members.  from Wiki:

Quote
After liquidation, Team Bondi's assets and most of its staff went to Kennedy-Miller Mitchell. Some of the former employees have gone to work in different Rockstar studios. Rockstar retained the L.A. Noire intellectual property.

Interviewed in November 2011, Kennedy Miller Mitchell heads George Miller and Doug Mitchell commented on the success of L.A. Noire and the acquisition of Team Bondi. Miller said that many staff members from Team Bondi 'immediately went to work on Happy Feet Two.'[50]

KMM also acquired the rights to Brendan McNamara's next game, titled Whore of the Orient, which McNamara describes as “one of the great untold stories of the 20th Century.”[51] Miller and Mitchell commented on this and another project, a game supporting the Mad Max sequel Fury Road, to which the remnants of Team Bondi may also be attached. According to Mitchell, 'With the government’s support we can immediately go forward with two games. Warner Bros is standing by, willing to do Fury Road; the incentive would bring it back here in a New York minute. It’s not immediately obvious but the potential in the video games sector is massive'.[50]

On 30 August 2012, the former Team Bondi staff officially confirmed they are developing Whore of the Orient that is to be released on next-gen consoles and PC.[52] In April 2013 it was reported that the title was still seeking backing and a publisher.[53]

the odd part is that if they went away in 2011 then they were still updating their site in 2012.

It's not actually Team Bondi, it's KMM Interactive which hired a bunch of former Team Bondi and Krome people after they shut down.

Edit: beaten to the punch by CK.

Whore of the Orient branded a disgrace to Chinese Culture

Quote
City of Monash councillor Jieh-Yung Lo, who is unhappy at the title of the game, plans to take Kennedy Miller Mitchell to the Human Rights Commission on the grounds of racial vilification, Australian website The Age reports.

Quote
"It's the use of the word 'Orient', more even than the word 'whore', that is the issue," Lo said. "The O-word is very similar to the N-word for African-American communities. It's a 19th century racial-colonial conception and it's especially painful for older people in the communities. That was a very bad time in China, and people don't want or need to have that dragged up."

The comments in the EG article make a good point on just how often the word "Orient" is used, even in China itself

most of us expected the title to be changed anyway for release(if it happens)
