in many threads about which series to get a sequel, bc gets mentioned quite a bit. well, they finally listened and are making a sequel. there's even a few screenshots here. this is looking pretty cool. i like the thought of an open world ala crackdown and sm3 with this mechanic. GT

I am both delighted and horrified by the thought of a BC sequel in 3D!

I'll get excited when it gets closer and it gets positive buzz. The fact that they are putting so much emphasis on concept art leads me to believe that the title is still really early.

The fact that they're not going to make this for the Wii makes me Yeah, I (and other sites) can't figure out why they aren't making a Wii port. I mean, Grapple Hook + Wii Controls = Pure Joy. And let me say that the NES version of this game ruled.

I know that it isn't all about the graphics, but they do really help with the ADD crowd.

This game is so far from release and will undergo so many fundamental changes between now and then, there isn't anything to be excited about yet. By the time Bionic Commando actually hits store shelves, it could star -Autistic Angel

All I know is it better have Hitler in it.
And I agree Wii controls would be awesome with this game. Metroid laid a template for how to stuff like that.

I have been dreaming of this one for ages, so I am both extremely excited and also scared that they will screw it up.
I can't say that the dreadlocked hero instills much confidence in me.

They need to include the original as a bonus on the disk or no sale.

i'd go for an xbla version myself, with some upgraded graphics. of course, that would be a kickass bonus. were there any japan only sequels we never got to see? those would be cool too. i didn't realize the graphics were entirely concept art. the ones i posted look like game screen shots. if that's concept, then they must have a pretty good lead on the engine, because those look interesting.

Nope, the game didn't do well in Japan. There were some arcade versions though that were markedly different from the NES one. Not too happy with the look of the protagonist. We went from commando guy in a bright green jumpsuit to generic rage prisoner dreadlock'd guy. As someone else I saw posted, looks like "Bionic Commando Streetwise." Feels like quite a leap. I wish BC had gotten a SNES sequel back in the day. That could've been awesome. For now I think I would've been happier with a DS sidescroller announcement than this. A trailer did get leaked today and people seem to say that it looks great, so hopefully it will still be good. Unfortunately the trailer has since been taken down everywhere. Doh!

Just read that Mike Patton (Faith No More) is providing the voice for the character.
I gotta say that the character design is odd looking.

"I burn with generic rage." That said - I don't think a company can EVER do a proper 'rebirth' of a game we all loved from like the NES/SNES era. We just all hold way too high of expectations of what we played to death in our youth.

True enough, although I still say a DS sidescroller could've knocked it out of the park. That trailer I was talking about above still hasn't showed up back online yet. A lot of people said it looked awesome, so my hopes are slightly raised again. Sounds like this is still a long ways off, either way.

I'm just concerned that this isn't getting Capcom's "A" efforts. The Gamespot interviews kind of indicated that Capcom had to be browbeat into it and the "multinational" development approach sounds like a good way to completely lack a cohesive vision.
Hope it's another Ninja Gaiden (sans difficulty) but I'm getting Rygar vibes.

At least the music seems good!
I smiled when I heard the one theme that had been obviously remixed from the NES game.

I have really fond memories of the NES game too. It's one of the last games I kept for the system. It seems like they're doing a lot more with the arm mechanism than Lost Planet did with its grappling hook gimmick (which seemed more of an afterthought there).

I have really fond memories of the NES game too. It's one of the last games I kept for the system. IIRC, I bought Bionic Commando after I already had a Genesis and it was the very rare NES that I could still play and get into at that point. It also had what was probably the greatest ending of the 8-Bit generation.

The GameBoy Color not-quite-sequel version of Bionic Commando that came out a few years ago was worth playing if you're a fan. That was basically the singular reason I bought a GameBoy since I just had to get my bionic fix.

oh man oh man oh man. I remember hanging out at a friends house damned near every day playing it on NES until we beat it. It had great re-playability, as well.
Definitely stoked...
