With all the new units coming out I'm wondering when people will be buying them.  Or if they will be buying them.

I'm probley looking at getting the ps3 eventually.  But I have no need to buy it until there is a game worth buying it for or if my ps2 dies..

Xbox 360 is looking very likely as a Christmas gift if its priced right.

Its all driven by price- $300-400 and I'll probably have all on launch or soon after.  Something above $400 and I'll likely wait for price drops or some incredible games that demand purchase of the system.

I'm gonna wait it out a bit, I think.  Test them out a little, ignore the launch day hyperbole and get some real, post-coital impressions from the early adpoters.  I'll also take advantage of the new consoles to flesh out my collection of current gen games on the cheap.

As a game player, the release of new hardware doesn't excite me per se. I buy consoles and upgrade my PC when there's a game I really, really want to play, e.g.,  Animal Crossing was my killer app for Game Cube. Launch titles usually don't appeal to my tastes so I expect it'll be at least a few months until something comes out I really want.

I agree.  It should be about the games.  Having the fastest, biggest, newest whatever means diddly squat to me.  Give me really good games on our existing systems and I could keep them for years to come.  Res 4 proved that for me.

Bingo, Zarkon!  Me too - I can't wait...

And, don't make me do a "Starshifter" all over Elder Scrolls: Oblivion!

I'll wait for the price drop and for a sufficient number of must-have games.  After that I'll have to save and then watch for good deals, followed by an evaluation of my current gaming situation and severe soul-searching about whether I really need another time-sink.  Then, maybe, I'll go ahead with the PS3 or 360.

On the other hand, a sudden windfall plus a really hot must-have game could do the trick in much shorter order.
