I just went to check the latest console news on IGN's homepage, and was greeted with a new layout. Holy hell, I haven't seen such a cluster<bleep> in a long time! Now granted, the old-new layout was a bit of a mess, but still somewhat understandable. This new one is... something else. Do they even bother hiring anyone to actually design their website? Rows and columns to the XXXtreme. Gah. Whatever happened to "less is more"? How are my eyes supposed to navigate through that chaos? Or am I just imagining this? With that said, I want to commend the staff of CG, along with its designer(s), on giving a very clean and polished look to the site, without cluttering it up with unnecessary "bling bling". The information's easy to get, easy to read, and easy to digest. I'll be visiting this site more, personally, as a result. ...though the smilies will haunt me in my dreams.

I see they have made their ads even bigger than ever. Good to see what is important...

I noticed IGN's 'look' a bit back as well, and I was just sorta stunned at the mess that main page was. Thank goodness for the bigger ads though... Tim

Still nowhere near as bad as the McGriddles-plastered IGN of several months ago. That was absolutely jaw-dropping.

Yeah, but at least the McNugget/McGriddle ones made me laugh. It was almost too ludicrous to be real. Not to mention very, very temporary.
I wonder, if their new advertisement system (not to mention overall design) will create the necessary revenue, or backfire and drive even more people away?

I have always hated the IGN site...I just have trouble navigating it for some reason. It's one of the few gaming sites I try to avoid because of it. I actually like the new design a little better but damn those are some big ads.

I just went to check the latest console news on IGN's homepage, and was greeted with a new layout. Holy hell, I haven't seen such a cluster<bleep> in a long time! I said it over at GG, but I think the new layout may be in anticipation of higher traffic during E3. As far as I can tell only the main page and the gaming sections are in the new format. The DVD section is still using the old design. Of course it may just be that they haven't gotten around to updating the non-gaming sections with the new look, but that's my thinking at least. Slim down the design some to reduce the server load...

Of course it's for E3. Gamepot recently refined their front page, Gamespy did it the same day IGN did (although they refined and didn't totally change in my mind...also remember IGN and Gamespy are now merged although the sites run separately). They have to pimp their site for those that started their Insider subscriptions around E3 time because years ago that's the only way you could get E3 news. Last year very little was Insider Only, it will be interesting to see if they do the same thing this year or not.

Gamepot recently refined their front page See, that's the funny thing. In both cases (IGN and Gamespot) I find the sites much harder to navigate. You'd think if they were tuning server loads by going more text than graphics, that it'd be done in a way that's easier to use as well. I say again...ugh. And don't even get me started with what's happened to Gamespot's news section. They totally changed that a month or so ago and it's nearly unusable. I greatly preferred their old flat format where you can scan through the headlines for all platforms easily. Now you've got to click on 4 separate buttons and most of the content is repeated.

My subscription to IGN expires at the end of this month and I'm not renewing. Along with their awful redesign, I just don't think their content is really worth $24.95 for a year. I'll miss their video reviews but that's about it.
