the top one was easy, it had the little iconic guy in the upper left corner.  the bottom was easy as that particular combination of colors and shape was easy to place as rtcw.

you got any others?

Spoiler for Hiden:
It's definitely Max Payne. Recognized it instantly. It's the poster where Max Payne stands behind police barricade tape that reads "Do not cross".

Also, the reason I didn't recognize the last one was because I haven't even heard about the game.

Here's an old favorite of mine that surely deserves to be remembered, though it's perhaps a bit obscure... (I changed images a bit, trying to be a little more fair  icon_smile).

Possibly Useful Hint(s):
-It's at least 10 years old. And I think a lot more hyped games in its same genre don't look or animate any better than it did in its day.

Utterly Useless Hint #1 (unless you know me):
-It's one of only three games that inspired me to do a specific fan site on it (the others were Blue Byte's Incubation on PC, and Konami's Ring of Red on PS2) in the days before Blogging took over the planet.  icon_razz

The problem with most of these quizzes is that if you've played the game they're easy to recognize, and if you haven't they're almost impossible. The exception is the Wolfenstein image above because it shows so little.

In other words, I have no idea what game that is. It doesn't seem familiar at all.

yeah, a classic, and with the full screen, it's a gimmee for anybody who ever played it or saw it.  same with the black and white one above with the face and brickwork.  hell, i still have the mousepad that you got when you bought the game

it's also definitely true what TiLT said, if you played it, you will easily recognize it.  i had a different guess on the last one, but even with the guess, i don't recognize it.

we should make this a regular thread like it has been before, and i like the cropped bits and pieces take on it.

Lex is a winner! Good eye.  icon_cool I have a soft spot for that game even if its sales were very modest and the French developer a game or two later went out of business. I still have several copies of the official strategy guide for that game (Prima made my fan site an "official Prima site" and sent me several free copies of the guide; I still have the letter, such a cool feeling). I set up a message board, and that developer's rep posted there frequently. It was hard work, but I had so much fun and learned so much about HTML and stuff (most of it long since forgotten). I miss those days of 1999.  tear

Well, yes, inherent in any contest like this is that we are not all clones who are familiar with exactly the same games. I don't know if the point is to take obscure images from famous titles that everyone knows, or to use more obvious images from obscure games most people likely never played. Just have fun, I figure.  icon_smile

My problem with the movie-style version of this thread is once you see any actor's face, people can just Internet search it for the movies they were in and go from there. The games version here is tougher, esp. if it's obscure, but I think if people mix it up a bit (some huge hits, some lost classics, some games in between), you could have some fun variety and all kinds of gamer types would enjoy it, if not every single post.

Cool.  icon_smile I liked controlling a duo of characters, and being able to switch direct control. It kept things varied, and lively. I forget the exact number, but I think it only sold something like 60,000-80,000 copies in N. America, which is a shame. And that was before Diablo II's summer 2000 release, so Delphine couldn't really blame D2 for that.

I ran a fan site (The Shadow's Darkstone Tomb, which still shows up on some old link lists) and an EZBoard message board. For a few months, it felt like a second job, but I loved doing it. I think the game actually released while I was in Korea visiting my mom for a couple of weeks in August 1999. So when I'd log into my Hotmail account each day at the military base library, I'd be inundated with Darkstone players seeking tech help or asking gameplay questions. And I'd be, "Hey, I haven't even gotten to play the game yet!"  icon_smile Cool memories. As Knightshade said, the old Nostalgia drug at work.  icon_wink

That old fan site of mine reminds me how great my old dialup provider (now defunct) was back then. Very generous in bandwidth/hits allowance, CGI scripting support, storage space for pages. Cox cable 10 years later (today), their web page support is crap by comparison (although I realize most folks just use 3rd party blog services today).

Kossak, I'm stumped. The little heads and bones make me think it's some sort of game set in Hell.  icon_confused

Wonderful stuff. But maybe a disclaimer that "no actual gameplay footage was used in the making of this video" would've been wise.  icon_razz I guess today you could actually make an action RPG with graphics that look like the CGI did in '99.

Kossak I'm stumped. I'm pretty sure it's not from a Bomberman game. And some very obscure videogame came up on a search later but now I can't seem to get that to come up again.

Well, when I did that, I just saw a bunch of Barbie Games listings (I kid you not).  icon_razz The only mention of Zeno Clash is some goofy desktop wallpaper.

I have an idea for another one, let me see if I can find some images for it. It's a game I played the demo of, but decided against buying.

Here's one. I checked, and I don't think the pass # is a "bread crumb" on Google.  icon_razz

I have more obvious image snippets, but I think they'd give it away.

Hints: It was a multi-platform title.
