I blew my gaming budget on a Wii and a couple of games (Zelda, RE, Harry Potter) over the weekend.  I'm done for a while.

I can't find official word, but I'm pretty sure this week's VC titles are:

Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES®, 1 player, rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Join Mario™, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad in an incredible fantasy world on a quest to save the day. This time, they have little more than vegetables to defend themselves with. Pick up items and throw them at your adversaries to clear levels in seven massive worlds. Even enemies can be picked up and tossed across the screen. Each character has a unique set of abilities: Luigi can jump higher and farther than any of the other characters, Toad can dig extremely fast and pull items out of the ground quicker than anyone and the princess is the only one who can jump and hover temporarily. This unique installment in the Mario series will keep you coming back for more.

Ecco: The Tides of Time (Sega Genesis, 1 player, rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): In this sequel to Ecco the Dolphin, everyone's favorite underwater hero must battle the Vortex Queen and her hive of drones. The wicked queen followed Ecco back to Earth from the future and quickly established her hive. It's up to Ecco to defeat this alien threat by navigating the depths of his side-scrolling world, solving puzzles and receiving help from his marine-mammal friends. When Ecco used the time machine to save his pod, he split the stream of time in two. He must now restore the rift before the world is permanently changed into a mechanical world, sucked dry by the Vortex.

DRAGON SPIRIT (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 600 Wii Points): A fantastic world of adventure unfolds in this vertical-scrolling shooter. Sealed away by the gods long ago, the Evil Demon of Darkness, Zawell, seeks to rise again and unleash a new reign of evil. The brave warrior Amur races to rescue Princess Alicia from the demon's wretched clutches. Amur takes the form of the legendary Blue Dragon and fights his way through the legions of monsters that await in the sky. Battle your way through eight different areas, using your Dragon Breath to bring down airborne targets and Fireballs to wipe out targets on the ground. Destroy flashing enemies and smash Eggs to uncover different kinds of power-up items. Boost your firepower by increasing the number of heads your dragon has, and defeat all the bosses as you make your way to Zawell's dark lair.

I've been hoping for Mario 2 for a while, so that's a sure purchase, and I think I might buy Ecco 1 & 2 in one fell swoop--never played the 2nd.

Nothing much to be excited about at all this week and not a particularily good VC week. The Mario Bros 2 game sounds good, but I still haven't finished Super Mario World and my replay of Super Mario 64. My son likes Ecco, but I've already downloaded it from gametap. I might pick up Harry Potter for the Wii this week if a few more favorable reviews come in.

I'm getting Ecco for the Wii VC and I may get Vampire Rain, but since it's coming out on the 4th, I'm thinking we won't see reviews on it until next week.  I'm interested in Chicken Shoot, too, but only barely.

Sigma is tempting, but my PS3 controller is really light and not hindered by a cord, so I kinda worry what I may destroy when I inevitably chuck it in frustration.

same here.  i put off The Darkness and Overlord for Vampire Rain since my budget was compromised thanks to unseen expenses this past month.  but the fact that i'm not hearing any buzz is definitely making me reconsider a day 1 purchase.  the concept of a splinter cell type stealth game with vampires makes me drool, but it could very well turn out to be horrible.   

edit:  upon seeing a few screenshots on IGN, i have to say it's not exactly the prettiest game around.  it looks like Metal Gear Solid circa 2003.  i can forgive that if the gameplay is good, though.

I have access to a copy of Shadowrun for $20 which I think is probably the magic pricepoint on that game. I'll probably grab it for that little money.

FWIW, there is a demo of Vampire Rain on the marketplace- not very impressive and, from what I understand from the Japanese release, the full game isn't any different.

Nothing for me this week, but I did just rent Ratatouille because I needed to give my gas-trigger finger a break and felt like playing a platformer.
