Who cares about your GOTY?  No one, that's who ya punk!

We want to know about your GOAT of the year for 2007!  What's a GOAT?  It's the game that was God-awful, Overrated, Atrocious or Terrible for you.  It can be a console game, a handheld game or a PC game.

Have at it!

Edit: Atrocious, not Awful.  Ugh.

Well, for the most over-rated game, it would have to be Halo 3.  I just beat the single player the other day and, well, I just don't get what people rave about with this series.  Sure, it's nice and polished, but I have played better FPS games.  I haven't gotten too much into the multiplayer and I think that is probably where the game shines.  CoD4 has sparked my interest in online multiplayer for FPSes, so I will probably give Halo 3 a whirl to see how it compares.  Since it doesn't really have the leveling part, I doubt it will, though the whole Forge thing could  be interesting.

I tend to be real selective when I buy games, so it pretty much keeps me from buying God-awful, awful, or terrible games.  I have to stick with over-rated.

Just curious...which platform?  I have been tempted to get it on Wii.

360. I'm not sure if it's any better depending on the system, I'd give it a rental before buying though in case.

I thought it used the same engine as Legend on the 360.  The camera wasn't really bad on that version.  Are you saying they messed it up for Anniversary?

STAY AWAY from the Wii version. They mentioned on the 1up podcast a few weeks ago that the controls are horrendous.

I'm gonna have to go with Madden.  After initially enjoying myself, I just soured on the whole thing and really only played 3/4 of my season before moving back to NCAA.  Really disappointing.

i've been lucky and missed the real bad cow turds this year, but i'd put blacksite area 51 up at the top of my personal list.  it's not the worst game ever made, but the worst one i've played made this year.

ooh, i almost forgot lost planet.  2 levels in and i'm bored with it.

honorable mention:  the last 1.5 levels of moh: airborne.  ooh, how many "super soldiers" can the german army put in my path in this supposedly realistic ww2 game?  each with a minigun and able to stand a clip into the head.  at least they put the worst enemy into the worst level and spared the others.

I finished Legend and never had a problem with the camera or controls (really enjoyed it too). Based on what Andrew posted above it sounds like they just royally screwed up the controls in Anniversary, which is a real shame.

Bioshock.

It's not godawful, atrocious, or terrible.  In fact it's a damn good game and I'd probably score it about an 8-8.5.  Nor was it the worst game I played all year.  But it was the most disappointing.  I've enumerated my reasons and frustrations in the official spoiler thread and elsewhere so I won't put them here.

I think alot of the games mentioned in this thread just go to show that there will never be a game that everyone likes.  Just not possible.

My choice : Hellgate London.

I've been looking forward to it for years.  But even setting aside the bugs the game just isn't fun to play.

Mario Galaxy.  Everyone here said how the camera controls were perfect and it was the greatest game ever, but after playing a couple levels I was just so pissed off at the shitty camera (you're going to make me look at this upside down?  really?!) that I quit playing and haven't gone back to it.  Very disappointing.

Hellgate London.  They took a genre I typically enjoy, put it in a setting I would typically love...then somehow managed to suck all the fun right out of it.

How in the fuck does a perfect camera make it so that half the time I'm looking at the world upside down?  You can't even use the "snap-behind" button to get it to turn the right way up.  It's the same shitty camera Nintendo has been using for years put into an even worse environment and no second analog stick for player control.  Perfect as a pile of crap.

Waitt...you don't want it to have Mario be upside down when he goes under a planet?  That kind of ruins the whole tiny planet vibe.  That's actually the thing I like best about the camera.

Seems like this is an odd year where the list of GOATs could double as the list of GOTY's. biggrin Assassin's Creed, Halo 3, Mario Galaxy, etc, etc.

I've had fun with Hellgate: London but it still gets my vote for being buggy and for attempting a subscription model that is downright laughable.

Jeanne D'Arc is my GOTY one moment and my GOAT the next.  I took the UMD out tonight and literally whipped it against the wall.  Fortunately (maybe unfortunately?) it did not break.  Believe me I am not an angry gamer-that's the first time in my life I've ever done that.  But a combination of their god-damn fucking "everyone must live" and 12 turn maximum made me absolutely livid tonight.  It took me four attempts to get through one of the levels tonight (the one where you have to jump over the castle walls).  How in God's name could they believe that putting a turn limit into the game makes it more fun?  It's just goddamn ridiculous.  I don't want to fucking work.  I don't want to waste three fucking hours playing one level.  I want to enjoy the game and I don't ever want to be "stuck".

Wow, yeah, thanks for reminding me (I think  tear).  I forgot to include this in my "Lows" section in the other thread.  What happened to this potentially awesome game is deeply sad.

Half Life 2: redux (ala orange box). The story is sooo 2003. slywink

Actually, it is my GOAT; Portal is excellent but thus far I'm hating the console release of HL.

Oh, and Zelda PH ... do. not. want. After all the hype here, it just fell way short of it.

I'm afraid to try Mario Galaxy for the same reason.

I'd have to go with Pirates of the Burning Sea.  I feel a little bad passing my GOAT to it, because it's not really all that atrocious, god-awful, or terrible; but it was just such a huge letdown after all I had read about it on paper.  I really thought it would be the MMO to finally tempt me to jump back into the MMO realm.

I really can't decide. Several games and parts of games stand out as a disappointments for me, but I buy few games and I do it carefully and can't think of any game I really just don't like, so I will list a few of my disappointments.

1. Eternal Sonata
2. Assassin's Creed
3. Blue Dragon
4. Warhawk
5. Tiger Woods 2008
6. Bioshock- I still like this game, parts of it I even think are fantastic, but it is, for the most part, grossly overrated.

Neck and neck for overall GOAT are Warhawk and TW2008. The more I look back on Warhawk the more mediocre I think it was. I actually like both BD and AC (BD more so), I just have some fundamental issues with the games that made them disappointing for me.

The game I was least impressed by that I played this year was Beautiful Katamari.

Why?

1. There. Was. Only. One. Freaking. Level.

Sure, you had different goals and different item layouts, but when you get right down to it, you were rolling up crap over the same map, over and over and over.

2. The gameplay is tired. It was great in Katamari Damacy. Started to get tired in We Love Katamari. This being the fourth installment (the third being the PSP version I never played), I was expecting bigger and better things. More of the same isn't necessarily a bad thing.

3. The king is even more annoying the more you play.

4. The final level is way too long. Twenty minutes rolling up crap, only to find out I was supposed to actually put the katamari in the black hole, but I didn't know that because I ignored everything the king had to say because he's an annoying twat - I never replayed that.

5. The game itself is way too short. It's about 3 hours long. Because you only have one level. And there's only so much you can do with that one level.

That all said, it is still Katamari Damacy, the same basic gameplay. And if you've never played a Katamari game, you wouldn't do bad with picking this one up. I'm just tired of the series.
