Was that ever officially cancelled or is it 'still in development'?

Blizzard has changed its name to StarCraft 2 and announced that it will be a RTS/FPS hybrid.

And everyone rejoiced.

When Swingin' Ape took over development, they scrapped pretty much everything Nihilistic had done, and started over from scratch.

Has Swingin' Ape made any other well known games? What type of studio are they?

Sounds like a new company.

One thing's for sure, Blizzard has high quality standards, so if it's not good they're not afraid to scrap a project that's well along.

Of course, they know their brand less games alone, so they can afford to take risks.

Yeah, they made Metal Arms, which was actually an awesome game.

I'm still hoping they turn ghost into a fun experience.

It's name is now taken literally and used to describe StarCraft 2. biggrin

I've seen some previews (can't find the links right now...so take what I say with a grain of salt) that said the version of Ghost that people got to play at E3 was "A good try, but horrid" citing poor collision, average controls, and very simple graphics.

*shrug*  I believe this was after Swinging Ape took over, but there was no mention of what build they were seeing.  The gameplay movies on the SC:Ghost website look nice...but they don't mention who's version it is.

I got to play a bit of the preview build.  I don't think it was anything outstanding, but I think that they used the abilities of the Ghost very well.

I would not be surprised (at all) if we never see this.  The development time seems incredibly long, even by Blizzard's standards.  I wonder when the game was first officially announced?

The earliest PR piece I have is from September of 2003.  I know it was at E3 in 2002 as well.

The primary issue I saw at E3 was port problems.  The PS2 version looked like hell graphically, whereas the Xbox and Cube versions looked sharp.  They will have to come to the table with something grand to beat out something like Splinter Cell now that its been so long in development.

Now there's a cool idea. Sounds like a much better one than the 'almost under development as long as Duke Nukem Taking Forever' one we have now.
