Now that GTAIV is out, what's the next big thing (especially for those of us passing on GTAIV)?

It depends on your console preference.  If you have a 360, I'd have to say Ninja Gaiden II.

360 = Ninja Gaiden II, and Mercenaries II. I'd also throw in LEGO Indiana Jones.

I'd say the next biggie for me would be Spore. That, or Starcraft 2, whichever ships first.

NHL '09!

+1

GTA IV was really the only 360 game I was hyped for months before it's release. If anything else gets good reviews then I might pick it up, but for now it GTA should hold me over until the next NHL release.

NHL 09? Are you guys serious? I think this thread is about "BIG" releases, as in 'mega' or 'blockbuster'. I don't think he's referring to an EA roster update for NHL 08  icon_razz

The newest NHL game is my most anticipated gaming moment each year (although GTA kind of took over this year). Playing the first shift of a new NHL game is an experience in gaming bliss (unless that year's version sucks, then it's a moment of extreme disappointment).

We each have our own personal lists of anticipated titles but on an industry wide level I would say the next big release, where all anyone is talking about on message boards is this particular game and we're doing countdowns and the like, is MGS4. Its kind of strange to think of a big release that is PS3 exclusive at this point but MGS4 should break that mold.

It depends on what you classify as big. If you mean big mainstream sellers like GTA4 or SSBB, I think the next big games will be MGS4, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Wii Fit and possibly Lego Indiana Jones.
If however you mean big as in AA or AAA quality games that will appeal to hardcore gamers like everyone that posts here, I think Ninja Gaiden 2, Mercenaries 2 and Fable 2 will fit that bill. I'm not convinced any of those latter 3 will be huge sellers, but I'm convinced they'll be top quality.
For me personally SW:FU is the next big release, only because I've been waiting for a decent SW game since Battlefront 2.

I'm curious what will be the next game that will knock COD4 out as the king of MP - and if it happens to be GTAIV, which will be the game that knocks it out?

If we are not talking about personal tastes, the Next Big Thing will be MGS4.  That will be huuuuuuuge (Although, I don't think it will make GTA4 level splash).  Sony is banking a whole hell of a lot on it's success (way to have no top end ps3's available for the last five months, dipshits).

Personally - My top wants are
Disgaea 3 (August)
persona 4 (if it makes it out this year, highly unlikely though)
Project Origin (aka Fear 2, as it really should be called if not for the weirdest IP split of all time)
Discples 3!!!!!! (Just makes me happy typing it)
and *cough* I'll be interested in how Fallout 3 fares...

EGM said it would likely be out this year in their most recent rumor section.

Also, I think it's in Atlus's best interest to get it localized sooner rather than later as the PS2 software market becomes less and less viable.

MGS 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 are probably the 2 biggest releases coming up.

I'm not really interested in either. So personally I am looking forward to Madden 09, Fallout 3, Gears 2, and Resistance 2 later in the year.
