Wow.  Here's the link from GameSpot

After months of rumors that his role was in flux, Warren Spector has decided to leave Ion Storm. British publisher Eidos, which owns Ion Storm, the studio behind the Deus Ex and Thief franchises, confirmed Spector's departure to GameSpot today. “Eidos announces that Warren Spector has relinquished his role as studio director at Ion Storm," said a spokesperson for the publisher.

Maybe they found somebody from India to do his job cheaper.

I guess he got intimidated by the Tyranny of Choice.

Can we go ahead and add him to the "Once great designers who went utterly nucking futs" list?

A pity, I loved Deus Ex. He was one of my favorite developers, up there with Chris Roberts, Richard Garriot, Black Isle, Bullfrog, Westwood, Looking Glass, and many more who produced games that never got the sales they warranted. While I quite enjoyed Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3, I can't help but think that the consolation of PC games is destroying the type of game I enjoy most.

But even though I agree with LE, comparing him with the lowlifes that are Lucusarts is just cruelty at it's worst.

Actually not being made at all.  What they are making is Bioshock which is described as a "spiritual successor" to the System Shock games.  But it is definitely not a "sequel" to SS1 & 2.  It does look cool nonetheless.  And Warren Spector is not involved at all.

Yeah if he was responsible for the watering down of Deus Ex 2 then I am not sad.  I'd like to see a true sequel, not a console version.

It's really sad that people are willing to crucify a developer based on one misstep, despite a back catalog of great games.
