What use is fertlizer?  I haven't used any fertilizer yet and all my plants are growing just fine.

On another note:  how the heck do you get a Jack-O-Lantern?

Fertilizer will make your plants grow more flowers or more fruits. You can fertilitze up to three times while it is growing and then you get a special growth award for each type of plant.

Edit: I also read on here that for trees you have to fertilizer once after each time it sheds it's leaves.

I picked this game up last night and played for about 4 hours to level 8 or so.  I have to say rereading this thread makes a ton more sense now.

Questions:

What happens if someone sends you a pinata you don't have the prereqs for?  When someone sends you a pinata, is it automatically a resident of your garden?  Anyone buy any pinatas for M$ points?

Yep pinata's sent to you are automatically residents and don't have prereq's.  They will also have the sender's custom tag if they were bred.

Another question.  Is there any advantage to keeping hard soil, or should I just break all that up to start off?

Far as I know there is no point to leaving hard soil.

On the monkey front... I've been distracted by Gears and R6:vegas so I haven't played enough to get a monkey.  I'd just bought a kitty as a pet last time I played.

Sure -- I'll keep him in a crate for if you want him...  (I found versus selling some pinatas, I've started keeping them at the post office...  It doesn't seem to affect their morale all that much!)

fired this back up last week.  The love isn't there anymore    I'm not sure what changed, but I was outright bored and even playing 15 minutes couldn't bring the spark back.  Looks like this one's going to be traded towards Star Trek Legacy.

My wife is still playing this a ton. She's gotten all but 6 of the Pinatas I think (Chippopatimus, Chewnicorn, and some converted sours). Took her almost an entire day to get the Roario to finally come in .

I don't even know how many species I've gotten, but Chewnicorns and Roarios were tough indeed to get.  I still can't get fizzleybears to stay, darnit.

Call me an idiot but for the life of me I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting master romancer for my pinatas. I was breeding them like crazy. Turns out you need to have 7 of the same pinatas in the garden at the same time. I was breeding them then selling them off so the garden wouldn't get too crowded.

I wish that was clearer in the instructions. Now I am really moving up. Just made master gardener and up to level 32.
