And a lot of these we'll be seeing between now and the end of the year. Didn't Nintendo promise another 30 titles or so before December 31st?

And on that matter, it's Monday. What came out today for the VC?

The only titles different between the release lists that I want are Super Metroid and Castlevania IV.  Well, I'd love the Fire Emblem game too but that would require a new translation so that will take some time if it even happens at all.  Most of the other titles I already have for GBA.

Otherwise, I'm planning on getting from the US list:

Super Mario 64
Toejam and Earl
Gunstar Heroes
F-Zero (Maybe)

Have the SNES Fire Emblem games ever been translated into English and released in the West? I hope so, because I can't imagine it would be profitable for Nintendo to translate them just for a VC release.

Nope- the GBA games were the first we got over here.  It's still possible to happen now though.  Since it now has a pretty strong (although limited fanbase), I think VC would be a very cheap medium to release them through, assuming localization doesn't cost too much.  It's the perfect opportunity for the original versions of Tactics Ogre and Tales of Phantasia, the never released Dragon Quest V and VI, the third Mana game, Shin Megami Tensei 1 & 2 and numerous other titles never released here because the American market "didn't seem ready" for them at the time.  Pretty sure that Nintendo has dropped some hints that we might see some previously unreleased games through VC.

I have no idea what localization costs, but since it's just the script and not voice, I imagine that Nintendo and 3rd parties could make a nice little chunk of coin selling thest titles to a small but very hardcore and loyal market.  It's essentially the same model that Atlus uses but the VC means that no worries about advertising, shelf space, physical medium, etc.

Why pay somebody to localize it? Just search the 'net and odds are you'll find people who've already translated the game.  icon_biggrin

Heh, I thought about that, but it isn't likely to see Nintendo (or any other company) "legitimize" the translated ROM scene by doing that.

Well we know that almost all of those titles have been registered with the ESA for the virtual console, so we will see them soon. I just dislike the fact that japan gets em first
