Uncharted 2 is only hours away (midnight launches on the East Coast are so close!), let us discuss what many reviewers are calling one of the best games ever, shall we?

Please keep spoilers out of this thread.  Of if you want spoilers in this thread, then we should make a impressions thread without spoilers.

due to the will of the gaming gods, i am going to end up with two copies, in a way.  i have my bought copy coming eventually, (last note was it was backordered) which is hugely bumming, and then i ended up with gamefly sending me a copy as i put off changing that around in time.  i don't expect to play this until the weekend, but at least it should be here in some form.  looking forward to it.

Me too! Picked up this and Brutal Legend and they're sitting out in the car mocking me right now. I'm feeling a little... sick... may need to go home early.  [cough, cough]

I played up to Chapter 2.  Fantastic opening.  Really wanted to keep playing, but my kid has to come home from school sometime.  Hopefully, I'll get the chance to continue tonight.

Well the fucking retail release hard locks up my system just like the MP beta did, at least the MP game does.  How fucking ridiculous is that.

Maybe try and return it then?  I've read quite a bit of the epic NeoGAF thread and I haven't seen anyone except maybe one other person report any issues.

I'm assuming you have updated to 3.01?

And that makes a difference how? Crashes like you're experiencing don't just happen on a console for no reason. You should contact Sony ASAP and see what they can do to help you out. Even new hardware can have faults. It sucks, but the faster you get it fixed, the faster you can enjoy a fully working PS3. smile

Is it less than 30 days old?  If you bought it from a brick and mortar retailer then I would just straight up exchange it instead of messing around with Sony support.

They have an outstanding return policy so you'll have luck there.

As for the latest firmware, is there anyway to make it not jump to the psn store on every menu?  Is this a new 'feature'? I hadn't updated in a while but did in case there was new support for UC2. It sucks. Also, it seems to stop the auto launch on the DVD from working.

Hmm, I've never tried an exchange with Amazon (just returns).  Would they send you a replacement before they receive the old one?

They sent me a battered copy of a deep space nine dvd box set once.  when i filled out the exchange form on their site, they cross shipped a new copy to me along with a mailing slip for the damaged copy.  all in all, very painless.

there's a system setting that turns off defaulting to the update. i usually keep a game in mine when off, &, when i turn mine on, it defaults to the game (tho i also shut auto-boot off)...

Anyways, less about hardware woes and more about the game.

Un-fucking-believable opening sequence. So cinematic... I don't even need to play the rest of the game to know it's brilliant.

Pete, you want out of your gaming slump, here ya go.

Ok last hardware post, less than 5 mins on the phone with Amazon and they are sending me a new console overnight.  I will return the defective one back to them concurrently.

Also, I used my old PS3 to play a match and had no problems.

Thanks for the help gents.  I am shocked at the hardware failure, but at least I can play.

On to the actual impressions now!

While we haven't hit the infamous Page 2 yet, I do have to say this much:

This game is absolutely amazing. I want to keep playing until I've finished the game, but I also don't want to beat a $60 title in a day. I have gotten to Chapter 5 so far, and I'm just astounded by the presentation, how the game presents the plot to you, and the gameplay itself.

That is just an added bonus.  I loved UC1 for the the story, acting and presentation, none of which will be present in MP.  I played MP in beta and it was fun but it wasn't anything special.  I'm guessing UC MP will die on Nov 10 smile

It's funny.  In one breath my wife laments our finances, constantly repeating how "poor" we are, but then she'll see the "PS3 is now $299" commercial and she'll say, "$299, huh?  Interesting."   saywhat

Regardless, as much as I'd like to play games like Uncharted, Uncharted 2, and some of the PSN "arcade" offerings, not sure if or when a PS3 will ever makes its way into our home.  Plus, I continue to avoid Blu-Ray players due to having two 400-disc changers and worrying that the Blu-Ray players will inevitably render my changers obsolete.

As expected, the SP game is fantastic.  Visually the game is out of this world, even better than the already amazing U1.  Voicework and cinematics are top-notch.  I am so very happy to be back in the Uncharted universe.  I am only about 1.5 hours in and already loving every moment of it.

If you have beaten U1 and have your save game still:

Spoiler for Hiden:
You can press square from the bonus (or maybe medals) screen and it gives you $100,000 extra to buy rewards with.

Just reached chapter 5.

Is it me or does this game not use the vibration function of the dual shock whatsoever? For a second I was pissed off at the PS3 Slim because I thought it didn't include one.

Tried 3 matches of the MP.

Not used to the mechanics in competitive MP, but I enjoyed what I did play.
