Playing as a pure mage is going to be an issue at lower levels. I would pump up some stats in melee just to be able to survive. I'm at level 26 and I would say go either Mage/Warrior or Archer/Warrior. But have some melee to go with ranged unless you just want to kite everything in the game. I don't have a strong grasp of the magic system (even being able to summon 4+ level 12 scorpions at once), so it *may* be possible to go pure mage, but I'm not seeing it.
Has anyone been able to hotkey a shield or second weapon? I can hotkey the main hand, but have to manually assign a second weapon or shield.
Also haven't found a way to add more hotbar slots (other than getting a new row of them which doesn't help much)

I've just been using the 3 equipment slots you can set up and switch between using R & T. at this point I've got two 2-handed weapons that get all the use, one with 2500+ blunt damage and the other 2100+ slashing damage.

well... ummm... I just kinda finished the game. I thought there were 5 chapters, but there are only 4, and 4 is shorter than 3. final save was about 26 hours, and you can run around after it's all over. which is a good thing, because a lot of the map is still unexplored.

Heh, I've spent over 26 hours already and I'm still on Chapter 2. I guess I spent a lot more time wandering around doing side quests and discovering all of the land area.

I'll spoiler it, but this map shows the areas I got to through regular questing (main and side) outlined in green: there's probably at least 50% of the world that I never got any quests to go to. I'm also looking at the gamepressure guide and not seeing much on the big island other than stuff I already went through.

One of the big areas in the game, is the MP area, as far as I understand, so that would account for people thinking there is more to the game than there is.

Well, after finding the mage guild and buying addiitional cords Playing a Mage has gotten easier. Question about summoning
So I found a Summoning Book and unlocked the skill. Is there a summoning card I need to slot into a amulet?

I think the size of the map leads people to think there's more to the single player game. I'm wondering if I'm going to find the areas of the biggest island that I haven't explored yet are going to turn out to be the MP maps.

That is indeed the case, the supposed biggest island in the game world is used to house the MP areas. Lots of people bitch about it, but it's stupid, because it's just a design decision, they coulda just left it off and nobody woulda complained...might have been smarter of em to do so cause i guess they get people's hopes up with it sitting there. Nevertheless, seems to be people's biggest complaint with the game cause they think they got shorted somehow...which is just a really idiotic complaint.

I'll spoiler it, but this map shows the areas I got to through regular questing (main and side) outlined in green: I have done a little sailing, but just to the smaller islands north and south of Eollas. I don't recall the exact numbers, but I think I was near 20 hours on my save file before I even got off that first big island. I made a point of running and discovering all of the landmass on Erimos and going into any caves I could find and still ended up with two quests I couldn't seem to finish before just moving on. I know there were still some doors I found that had the red locks on them and never figured out how to open them.

what would you suggest? when accpeting deliveries at work I usually spell it 'Smith' just to avoid the blank stare from the delivery guy as he tries to figure out how to spell it.

Great Review! I have similar feelings... For no particular reason, I'm having more fun with this game than any other in a long time. Even more than DA:O. But I would be hard pressed to recommend it to anyone, as I can overlook the flaws but think there are a few that might cause frustration quits from others.

Disappointed in this. Building a weapons and armor up is cool but then they limit you by having you need a certain level of skill and not letting level up the skill until your overall level was at a certain place. Also, you can explore but areas we don't want you to see yet we just put a red lock on. And the ending was major suck. It was worth the Steam sale price and kept me entertained for a bit, but it made me really want Skyrim to hurry up and get here.

the expansion, Pirates of the Flying Fortress, is up on Steam now. debating whether or not it'll be worth 27 bucks though. hopefully there are some impressions for it floating around the web soon.
