The combat still looks like a hectic mess to me, which is a bit concerning.  However, the graphics and music look/sound amazing, and I'm sure I'll be trying this one out.

Well, the game is supposedly using gambits so that should make combat much less hectic.

I hope so.  The first clip looks awesome and it's pretty obvious how the gambits will work.  The second clip, however, shows battles with a ridiculous amount of units on-screen.  I have a hard time seeing how gabits will function in this situation, and it just all looks very...messy.

That's an "out" for me. Too much in the way of RTS elements for my tastes.

It doesn't look like anyone outside of the main characters are controllable so I would guess/hope that your little army will be controllable via grouped orders so that individual unit micromanagement isn't necessary.

Is this Final Fantasy Tactics DS?  It looks extremely similar to that game.

No, this is a spinoff of Final Fantasy XII, which is set in the same universe (Ivalice) in which FFT and FFTA were set.  There's a separate DS game, FF Tactics A2, which will continue the line of strategy games.

Some new Japanese magazine scans at RPGamer.  It looks like there will be something akin to the license board in the game.
