If you're spending $59.99 on Diablo 3 (or more for CE), what's a $19.99? It's couch change. I assume because they're using the same publisher as Cryptic's new owner (Perfect World Entertainment), they've tied in pre-orders to an opportunity to participate in Cryptic's Neverwinter closed beta. I just wish they had a ballpark idea on release date. I don't think my aging wrists/fingers can handle this and D3 simultaneously. Diablo 3 is playing a big factor in me thinking of waiting too: I figure I'll be burnt out on the action RPG clickfest genre for a bit. also, I'm considering finally firing up Titan Quest, in which case I'll definitely be burned out on this type of gameplay for a bit.

Even though I will be buying Diablo 3, I'm totally willing to pay full price (all $20 of it) in order to support an awesome smaller studio like Runic.

I just pre-ordered. I'm as excited about this as I am about Diablo, + it's cheaper, + Neverwinter beta access (which has only sounded great based on press from PAX). And even with any price drops, that's only saving $5-10. Whereas if I wait on diablo I'm more likely to save $20, or the price of Torchlight 2

Also, FYI, Steam has a buy 3 get a 4th free pack!
Details of the different deals. Only get the Neverwinter beta through Perfect World, only get Steam stuff and Torchlight 1 free through Steam.
Sounds like it you want to do Neverwinter beta do Perfect World, otherwise Steam is the way to go.

I'd rather have it up all the time instead of stopping and thinking 'did I make sure to check out that area with the Z key?' after I've left it behind. of course in D3 I also miss having a furry piece of luggage pet

I thought i remembered TQ having the option to toggle the loot displays on all the time, or only when you hold the button. Check the menus for that if you still have interest in the game.

Picked this back up recently and it's consumed me. Why the hell did I never know the Mage was so massively overpowered? He's got this beam spell that simply kills every thing it touches. Max that out and throw in a steampunk golem as well and you are good to go. I love this game.

Just got a beta key (FYI, you need to have an account at runic's site if you don't). Will try later this weekend... inlaws are here, cramping my gaming style. FYI, the beta is online only.

I'm going to capture some of the beta and post it for those who can't get a key. It absolutely feels like old school Diablo rather than the new hotness Diablo 3. Just my 2c

Just finished the beta with an engineer. Fun . Seems just as fun as D3 to me for 1/3 the cost... beta runs through around lvl 20, a good few hours.

I played like a tank until I got to the late levels in the beta. At that point I really needed the offensive gun (can get at lvl 14) to carry me through since i was doing solo at that point. Might have been ok if I'd been teamed up. Looking forward to trying with some of the other classes.

Yeah, 2 main pre-order deals. That, and if you do it through Perfect World instead of STEAM you will get into the Neverwinter Nights beta.
Also, at least initially STEAM had a buy 4 for $60 (3 + 1 free) deal.

I must be missing something but this morning I can't resume either of my current games. Neither appears in the game list no matter how I set the filters. Anyone else have that problem?
Edit - OK, I see you have to hit the Create Game button to resume a saved game. Makes no sense to me but it worked.

I hope this game can weather the D3 storm. It's unlucky timing to come out in the same year as the king. Torchlight was fun (and priced right). I'll buy Torchlight 2 at some point this year, but not while I'm still in the addictive embrace of D3.

Same. Though I bet there's a bit more depth to Diablo (story and gameplay) later on. Still, certainly going to be well worth my $20 in comparison. I like the expanded side zones to explore now in comparison with Torchlight 1. Seems like you have at least 3 people... someone shoudl go ahead and bite the 4 for 3 deal bullet I enjoyed the beta but it's no where near as good as Diablo 3. Too little too late I'm afraid. The PC Gamer preview they wrote based on the beta has me even more excited for this game. It sounds like for all the decisions Blizzard made for Diablo 3 about streamlining character customization and loot wonkiness to satisfy the auction house, the Torchlight 2 guys have made the opposite decision.

I think them not rushing this out to beat Diablo 3 to the market is going to be a good thing, as they can look at all the complaints and do better. sure, I was annoyed with it taking so long, but by the time it's released and put on sale it should have a nice polish to it.
