I know this is all about opinions, but really, worms 2 in the top 10 at 6?   There's many more to gripe about, but wow there are some games listed that are not top 100 worthy.

well, like you said, it is an opinion piece.  I imagine there'd be quite a variety if there were more than one version of that list.  For example, I'd have more RPG's in my top 50 PC games and probably only 1 or 2 RTS games.  granted, it'd probably take me a year to compile such a list smile

I didn't even know the two Star Wars games in the top 10 were released on the PC. But then I'm a Gen Xer too so maybe I'm outside the "our generation" qualification.

Rogue Squadron was not better than Tie Fighter, or heck X-Wing Alliance.  Also if you're going to pick a Rogue Squadron game I'd give it to RS2 for the Hoth sequence alone.

RS2 didn't come out for the PC.  I did have Pod Racer on the PC, RS 1 I had to google to make sure it wasn't a mistake.

Mafia in the top 10 is spot on- possibly higher.

No Civ II there, though?  Naednek will bleed for this.

For sure. The scariest game I ever played.

No listing for Fallout or Morrowind?  icon_confused

Perhaps the worst Top XX list of all time.

But of course these lists aren't meant to actually mean anything, but to simply stir up controversy over how terrible they are. So...well done.

Being a PC only list just makes RS over Tie Fighter or X-wing even more inexplicable.

I don't play that many PC games, but Grim Fandango is one of the few i have played, loved it to bits

I recently lent it to my sister, but she could not get it to work for some reason(I think it may be the OS that may be the obstacle, but i have honestly not touched it in years)

and thank you GT for not making me click on 50 different pages like the other sites make me do

List is a joke, as they usually are. No problem with saying, "hey, these are my favorites" but trying to infer anything else is ridiculous. How do you have a list of supposedly influential games without World of Warcraft, for example (or any other MMO)?

I'd agree with the X-wing Alliance and Tie Fighter over RS or PR, but I'm also wondering how at least one of the Ravensoft Star Wars games (Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy) didn't make the list? Those were 2 excellent games that played much better on the PC than their console counterparts. Heck I still reload and play them every other year and I'm always surprised at how many folks are still playing them online.

Otherwise a decent list which includes many of my top 50.

Misguided, per the info on the article it isn't a joke - it's an editorial by one of our writers on his top 50 personal picks. I know the title is a little misleading, but in the opening he covers it off pretty well that these are the games that influenced him. TBH, I know a few people my age that LOVED Worms - it was one of the best Scorched Earth-like games out there.

Just to be clear - this isn't representative of all of our PC picks. smile

Mine would have included:

(series, at least one or two)
Syndicate
Ultima
Wing Commander
Eye of the Beholder
Legend of Kyrandia
Hero's Quest
Rainbow Six
Dark Forces II
I'76
Full Throttle
Day of the Tentacle
Phantasmagoria
Hexen/Heretic
Quake 2
XIII
Test Drive
Dune II: Building of a Dynasty

etc...

Well, the title of the piece should be "My 50 Favorites" rather than "best" or even "influential" as that is kind of sketchy. I'd actually be interested in a recurring feature like that; various staff members posting their most loved games and why.

The list is clearly one persons bias and not a "generations" list of games.   Theres no Final Fantasy games at all there?  Heroes of Might and Magic?  Baldurs Gate?  You grab games as far back as 1990 so they fall into that time frame.  Instead its filled with shooters and war theatre RTS games.  Im also surprised you ignore Warcraft, without which Starcraft wouldnt even exist.    The list is fine as far as it goes but its not the list of a generation.

Not that sort of joke. A joke as in, "you've got to be kidding me"

This. I already stated previously that it would have been fine to say these are his favorites, but they were also presented as a list of titles that influenced a generation.
