I'm kind of covering my forum "homes" with a hypothetical survey of pc games you'd wish were surprise announced at E3. Re-makes or sequals. Her'es my top 5 (ok I couldn't stop at 5, so it's 12 now).
* System Shock 3 * X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter * SimEarth * Age of Wonders 1 - remake please! * Masters of Orion 2 * Silent Hunter 4 (War in the Pacific) * Medieval: Total War (with their new engine) * Thief 4 * The Dig * Front Page Sports Football * TV Sports Football (I so loved the presentation and stat setup)! * Star Control 2

X-Com - It doesn't have to be x-com itself, but something very close and that'll be enough. I'm hoping the Codo guys get enough money from Rebelstar raiders to turn it into the next X-Com.
I can hold off on System Shock because Bioshock should fill that role well. However yes, I do still want a System Shock 3 to finish up the story, as I hated that tidbit at the end of SS2.

I'd also love to see a modern day remake of X-Com. That game remains incredibly fun to this day -- the gameplay mechanics are so solid, I can't understand why the formula has never been successfully duplicated.

X-Com... although I dont know if they could do it justice anymore. Odds are it would turn into a FPS with half the fun and 10 times the annoyance (Not always the same thing)... or into a RTS with so much micromanagement it makes me die a little inside everytime I do one.
Its hard to come up with a composite list... But I'll Try: Baseball Stars - SNK - Nintendo baseball game where you could make your own team, name your players, switch thier positions (Other than pitchers) and when they started they sucked, but through playing games and winning and earning money you could buy them power ups...Games took at most 30 minutes to play, and thats if you were slow, simming took maybe 3-5 seconds.
Front Page Sports - Football - No one has ever really doen a decent job of making a good football sim, since everyone seems to want to play, as opposed to me. The fact I cant even play this on Xp irritates me so much it hurts.
Wasteland/Wizardy - not enough decent RPG's anymore. Both ofthese would be great remakes as long as they didnt forget what made the games good and just updated the engine and graphics.
I loved someones (looks it up - Creepy Smell) Autodeul comment. Hell for that matter, Car Wars really should be made into a decent video game.
I'd really like a new Dragons Lair myself... But I'll settle for a new Jet Moto...

-> X-Com -> Master of Magic -> Master of Orion -> Elite -> System Shock -> Fallout -> Legacy of the Ancients -> Star Control 2 -> Planet's Edge (=X-com + Star Control 2) Now I'm not only saying that I want remakes... I'd take a kick ass sequel that contains all the elements that made the previous game great.

Mmm..good memories.
Would like to see an update to BioForge (Origin), including whatever they were going to put in the expansion. I also want to see a remake of Night Shift (LucasArts) on a portable console. Actually that last one would be perfect for the DS.

Bethesda's IHRA Drag Racing.
It's still my favorite drag racing game, but it sorely needed better sound and better physics.
Another racing game is Street Legal Racing: Redline. It just needs fleshed-out a bit more.

Nobunaga's Ambition Space Hulk Star Control II Star Flight II TIE Fighter Wing Commander III
Shogun: Total War on the R:TW engine. I'd love to see X-Com with a graphical overhaul.
Semaj, I love the idea of a new Baseball Stars! Don't even care about the MLB license since the game was all about making the team and players! Another NES baseball game I loved was Dusty Diamond All-Star Softball.
I'm sure there are more (Dune II, which was already done -- do it again!). Desert Commander on the NES... A Boy and His Blob...

This is pretty easy.
1. X-Com (by a large margin) - don't change the friggin' gameplay one iota. Just update the graphics and GUI. This is probably the easiest of all remakes. I don't know why stupid people keep tinkering with the gameplay. Just update the damned graphics!
2. Master of Magic - This is truly a classic game that has yet to be duplicated. More of a stretch as some gameplay elements need to be changed.
3. Ultima 4 - This will never happen, but I really enjoyed this game and would love to see it with updated graphics and some modern gameplay tweaks (regarding monsters, dungeons, parties, etc.).

Buzz Aldrin's Race into Space - an engine update would be awesome. Using speculative tech and extending it as a race to Mars could be fun, too
TIE Fighter - the best of Holland's SW games. Just update the engine.
Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe - a flight-sim remake, with campaigns and all. Not the third-person console crap they pushed a year or two ago.
Mutant League Football - I could see the BLITZ guys having a field day with this one.
And tons of adventure games - Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island, Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, Freddy Pharkas, Space Quest, etc.

I believe Autoduel predated Mad Max; it's a pen and paper RPG from Steve Jackson games (current versions use GURPS rules). Someone posted a link to an MMOG with an Autoduel theme, but I dont recall the name.

A lot of people have listed Autoduel (here and on other baords). What was so great about it? Somehow I totally missed that in my gaming infancy... Its an rpg with car combat focus. You can participate in arena duels with your car (different classes based on cost), be a courier (deliver goods to different towns while avoiding bad guys), be a vigilante (make cash by selling salvage from defeated foes) or any mix of the three. Your character has a driving, shooting and mechanic skill. There is an actual story line based on your prestige that unfolds as you play. Here is more info. I've recently been playing the pc version (used to play it on my ol' C64. Here is an arena duel during amateur night where I've just defeated an enemy.

Master of Magic Master of Magic Master of Magic Master of Magic Master of Magic
Seriously, Master of Magic was such an awesome game, I wish it would really come back. I remember playing that game all summer with my brother. Such great memories...
I really liked Autoduel a lot as well. I remember trying to pick off the drivers of the enemy in order to get as much salvage as possible. Great game. The MMO based on Autoduel is Auto Assault.

(1) X-Com (original) [by a large margin] (2) M.A.X. (original) [no need to update graphics - just fix late game pointer bugs so I can finish a large game] (3) Autoduel [and no the upcoming on-line multi-player one does not even come close to what the original was or what I want] (4) Wasteland

Didnt someone just do a remake of Maniac Mansion? It wasnt commercial, but from what i recall it was some high quality freeware (they were concerned about getting sued making a commercial game, but figured not charging would be less bad).
