OK folks I've finally found a temporary fix to my D2/D3 cravings.  Thanks to Hark for pointing me in the right direction.  I was staring at the Grim Dawn forums hoping for some news there, but after finding this I think I should be set for a while.

I know there have been other TQ threads but I do believe this recent combo mod is deserving of its own.  The Paths mod completely reworks the masteries into 9 new ones, and all sorts of gameplay adjustments and balance improvements.  The Lilith mod is a complete map overhaul with different quests and a whole different storyline, and music ripped straight from Diablo.  You can (and may already have) played both of these mods separately, but together they pretty much make TQ a completely different game.  If you're lucky like me and are new to both mods, it really is like getting a brand new D2 clone release.

Info on Paths mod:  http://www.titanquest.net/tq-forum/threads/32395-Information

Info on Lilith mod: http://www.titanquest.net/tq-forum/threads/11603-Lilith-The-Will-of-Demon-Battles-of-Jalavia

Here's the steps in case you are a novice like I am:

1 - Install TQ
2 - Install TQ - IT
3 - Patch up to 1.17 (not sure if this is necessary)
4 - Run the game, it should patch some more files for you  and set up the directories
5 - Download Classic Lilith 1.1 and install

6 - Install extras

http://www.titanquest.net/tq-forum/threads/34261-New-Lillith-Download-Location

6 - Download LilithPaths1.4 and extras.  You need the main Lilithpaths file AND the Resources file AND one of the difficulty databases

http://www.titanquest.net/tq-forum/threads/32397-News-amp-Downloads

7 - Installation

C:\Users\XXXXXXX\Documents\My Games\Titan Quest - Immortal Throne\custommaps
Make a folder called "paths"
Now place the 2 needed exe's in that folder (1.4Resources.exe and one of the monsterspawn/difficulty files)
Extract the 1.4Resources to "destination folder: Resources" and 1.4Standard (or another of those files) to "database"

Your folder should now look like this:
C:\Users\XXXXx\Documents\My Games\Titan Quest - Immortal Throne\custommaps\paths
\database (in it a paths.arz)
\Resources (in it effects.arc, images.arc, ingameui.arc, Maps.arc, quests.arc, sounds.arc, text.arc)

For Lilithpaths, do the same thing:

C:\Users\xxxxx\Documents\My Games\Titan Quest - Immortal Throne\custommaps\LilithPaths14
\resources
\database

8 - You still need to copy some files from the original Lilith.
Those are maps.arc and mp3.arc
These files need to be placed in the resource folder of LilithPaths

9 - When you're ready to play, select "Play Custom Quest", create a new character, and select the map you want (lilithpaths - Jalavia if you are playing the full combo) and hit Start

- - -

I've checked my folder structure out and the above looks correct.  Essentially you should end up with 3 folders (Lilith, Paths, and Lilithpaths) in your custommaps folder in My Games, with each of these having a Resources and Database sub-folder.  The only tricky part that remains is step 8, copying over the 2 files from the Lilith folder to the Lilithpaths folder.

I love Paths + Lillith (heck, I love Paths with the old story too)

The amount of work and thought that went into the mod is pretty amazing to me.  glad you've fixed your craving Ritt, just wish you had joined us when we were playing it every night a few months back slywink

Doh!!!!

But yeah I agree it's absolutely incredible that people did this much work (and for free!), not just to create the content but to balance and test it all as well, which must have taken a lot of time.

One thing I should mention (and it's covered in those intro links) is that this combo mod is definitely not for the faint-hearted.  I'm playing on the easiest settings (normal mobs) and I am still constantly chugging potions and getting my ass handed to me.  But it's fun, and balanced enough that if I do need to "grind" up a level, there are spots clearly intended for you to jump back and do a little loot and xp run.  I've finally got to a point where I've got access to some of the higher tier skills, some of which are very cool and powerful.  But just when I start to get a little confident, I get smacked back down again, which is excellent in terms of play balance.

So far the overall design of Lilith is excellent, and the graphics look amazing.  I had forgotten how good the TQ engine looked, and now I'm playing it on 1920X1200 with everything maxxed, so it's even more impressive than I remember.  My only "complaint" on the mods is that the loot doesn't seem to have changed much from what I remember of original TQ.

What bothered me in TQ: not enough enemies on screen at once. No interesting enemies to fight. 'Floaty' combat feel, not immediate enough.

You guys don't sound like you ever played TQ with the Immortal Throne expansion installed. It really was almost a new game, especially in the levels, quests and enemies in the add-on regions in the game, along with fixes to various interface issues, and inventory handling. Does Immortal Throne work as a stand-alone, or just as a continuation for characters from the original?  I wouldn't mind giving it a shot, but all my saves from the original are gone and there's no way in hell I'm playing all the way through it again just to get to the add-on expansion content.

'Floaty' combat feel, not immediate enough.

This is my biggest complaint about the game, even more than the itemization.

I love Titan Quest though, and it's definitely right up there with Diablo 2 and Sacred 2 for fantastic hack-n-slash gameplay. I've started replaying it recently to play through with the expansion this time, and I will HAVE to try these two mods out after I finish a playthrough. biggrin

Yeah, I guess… I really wanted to like it, I spent quite some time thinking over character builds before my new computer arrived that could handle it… And I enjoyed many things about it.

[yoda] But Diablo II, this is not [/yoda]

Really, all you got the first 10 hours were melee dudes and archer dudes. After that some more, but they look slightly different. Boooring.

These games really have to have everything fall in place: it seems there’s a fine line between addictiveness and boredom.

We get it. You hate Titan Quest. You think it's a gigantic Stinking Turd. You think Blizzard is the Be-All and End-All of game developers and no interlopers should ever even enter the same genres that Blizzard made games in even if Blizzard's game is 10 years old and pixelicious. So why do you keep wasting your time saying the same thing over and over again here?  Why not let the few folks who enjoy it have their fun? That's all I'm saying.  icon_smile

Awesome! I'll definitely check this out. I (re)bought Titan Quest/Immortal Throne on Steam a few months back when it was on sale, but have not gotten around to replaying it. This will definitely give me an incentive to install.

TQ is my favourite Diablo clone.  My only complaint is that I don't particularly like the interface (the hotbar) and the way you activate skills.  Although to be fair, I don't think D2 is that great either.  I'd prefer a more MMO like UI or like Guild Wars.

I installed the mods but haven't had much of a chance to try them out.

I found that the expansion introduced a number of performance issues. There are a couple sections in the expansion areas in particular that stutter like hell (crystalline stellae and tower of judgment come to mind). Shame they never patched it. I mean, shit, as it stands the final boss has this issue. How that gets passed quality control is beyond me. It's a widely known problem as well, so it's not like just a handful of people are affected by it.

Was that a reaction to my post? If so, you're quite mistaken. I liked the game, I even said so on several occasions... Maybe I came off too harsh.

I am an absolute D2 fanboy, I regularly repeat D2 remains my all time favorite game of any type.  When TQ originally released, I definitely liked the game and played it a ton, but I was disappointed with the multiplayer and the lack of random map design.  After a while I started getting bored of running the same maps, I literally had memorized portions of the maps, I knew exactly where mobs would appear and when, etc.  That's one thing that continually amazes me in D2.  No matter how many times I've run the same areas, the random factor is just good enough that I am familiar with map shapes and tendencies but there is still variance, so I feel like there's something different when I'm physically running them.

In any case, back OT, the Lilithpaths mod has breathed complete new life to the game, particularly to the beginning portion.  The Lilith maps and graphics are (thus far) exceptionally well done, it really feels like playing a new game, and one that was well designed to boot.  Add the new masteries and it's just a great new experience.  I even started a second new character, and even the replay of the same opening area has been fun.  Anyone worried about not enough difficulty or not enough mobs need not be concerned, you will be swarmed within the opening minutes, even on the easiest difficulty.  Crowd control is definitely something to think about early on.

Some other things to note.  You get 4 skill points per level and 16 attribute points, which I really like as you get more bang per level.  What this means is that you can (if you choose) get to the top tier glory skills much faster.  This is fun for me as a first play through with no experience with the skills, but strategically you probably want to think about your late/endgame build.  What I like about the balance (thus far) is that as powerful as some of the top tier skills are, they aren't overpowered (yet).  Every time I think I am on a roll and kicking major ass, someone slaps me down again.  And of course if you are playing on a harder difficulty, you may want/need to concentrate on lower tier skills just to survive.

Are your video drivers up to date? I don't keep mine constantly updated, and when I run into these kinds of problems, it almost always serves as a reminder to me that "oh yeah, I should probably update my video drivers". slywink

Yeah, I was thinking that too.  I went through the folders and found what looks to be the UI texture file and replaced it but still no dice.  I do have about 10 or so .tex files in one of the folders I downloaded with Lilith, but none say UI on them and I can find no guidance as to where they go.  They are in the lilith.rar file in a folder called "fx_textures.zip".  Maybe they are the problem, but I have no clue where to put them in the game folder.

Found this here, hope it helps:

Quote
- Unzip Creatures.zip (Allskin Mod) in the Database folder of TQIT (the game) : [drive letter]:\[path where TQIT is installed]\Database
(after unzip you will have [tqfolder]\database\Creatures\pc -> with male and female folder inside)

- Unzip fx_textures.zip in the Database folder of TQ (the game) ! NOT TQIT ! : [drive letter]:\[path where TQ is installed]\Database
(after unzip fx_textures.zip you will have [TQfolder]\database\ and a few files (6) .tex and one file .ssh)

- Launch TQ-IT >> Custom Quest and choose LilithMasteries ~ Jalavia

I can't believe I did not find that.  Thanks!  I am sure it probably fixed something I would have encountered later, but I still have my checkerboard UI.  I thought for sure your find would have fixed it =/  I guess I'll have to resort to what I have been trying to avoid and do a full reinstall of everything.  crybaby

I love me some TQ!  This looks awesome, Thanks Ritt and Hark.

Anyway to play these multiplayer?  If so is there any interest in trying to get a once-twice a week session together?

Hijacking the thread for one second:

I bought the gold edition of TQ off steam ages ago.  I finished the original game and loaded up the same game to play the expansion...but my character cannot beat that final boss in the original so that I can go on to the expansion material.  Is there ANY way of getting around having to beat that final boss to open up the expansion?

titanquest.net will have plenty of hints for each type of character on beating Typhon.  Barring those the general advice given is that you might need to level up a bit before moving on.

That's pretty funny, since that's how my father finally beat Typhon (I did it for him).

didn't a patch break the final guy at one point, or made is so a particular build wouldn't be able to beat him?
