What an awesome game!  I loved everything about it.  When I found the first hand print on the wall I was totally shocked, I had no idea that was coming.  When I saw the fire in level 19 I was like no way, this is it?  Good thing my training came through!  Brilliant ride!  I wondered who the female lead was as well.  It seemed to me that she died in the end scene.

It's really worth finishing.  The last "level" is just amazing.  I can't say any more without spoiling things but you need to finish it.  Post here if you get stuck and we'll get you past it.

I still want to know how some people are beating those times on the speed runs. One of them, I think it was level 13 or so, I managed to beat the top score but I'm absolutely stumped on how you beat that level with only 4 portals total. saywhat

I probably will. I quit last night out of sheer frustration. I'm not the type who easily figures out this type of stuff.

I finally finished Portal tonight.  Unlike some people, I wouldn't say that it's the most spectacular game ever or anything.  It had some really neat elements and some really frustrating things.  Certainly a positive experience but marred by those elements.  Plus, it seems like over half the game is just teaching you how to play.

I was loving the game until the end of level 17...  having to jump up the 4 platforms without stopping.  Frickin impossible - I spent 2 hours getting to that point, and spent two hours last night trying to get past it.  I HATE jumping puzzles.  Ruining an otherwise fantastic game for me.

You can find videos on Youtube for all the levels.  That might help if you get stuck.  It is worth finishing though.

I hate jumping puzzles too. I suck at them. When i realized what i was going to have to do on that level i though i was done for. However, they did a really good job at making it pretty easy. Don't overthink it and just remember which portal you have to shoot next (its the portal of the lower platform). I actually let my guy bounce up and down a few times (and saved in mid air). Once they bounce up and down, they actually don't move sideways, so you can let them bounce forever. You shouldn't even be using your movement keys. This one is all mouse.

Actually, you can stop (or lose momentum) on those platforms, just send a different portal back to the starting area, reposition that portal down the same pit you used to first gain momentum.  Then when you jump down into it, you'll shoot out the other side on the platform you got to.

bouncing back and forth works great on the standard level...doesn't work so well on the 'advanced' version when each platform drops away as soon as you shoot out of your portal though icon_wink

That level 17 was one of the levels that I hated.  Part of the problem is that the portals are just a bit too skinny so occasionally I would clip the side when I was falling back down.  The other problem was that it changed where I was aiming so as soon as you pop out of the other portal you are totally disoriented and have to quickly try to whip around and aim at the nex platform before you are too low.  A real pain in the ass and not fun at all.

I hope the WCC isn't going to get all Hollywood, start forgetting it's friends, and like totally hanging out with Paris and Brittney.  Next we see tabloid photos that it's stopped wearing panties, it gains a ton of weight, and ends up dancing with Dennis Rodman on some goofy reality show.

Oh WCC, where did it all go wrong?

I'm a little behind on my gaming, and am just getting back to finishing Portal.

I just euthanized my companion cube, and wanted to confess that I feel horrible. I've killed a buddy, and feel like I should be punished for doing so.

But it was him or me....

Same here. It wasn't really a pivotal moment for me. *shrugs*

All the hype about Portal being the "best thing ever" was overdone. Yeah, the game definitely is brilliant, well and truly so. Very inventive and clever. But didn't reach the hype everyone seems to have given it. It's definitely one of the most compact and well-paced gaming experiences I've had, and I mean that in the best way possible. icon_biggrin

Wow 2007! I knew I was late to the party but I had no idea that I was this late! Is there still cake available? smile
I started (and finished) the game game today.  Wow absolutely everything was top notch.  I even loved the credits at the end.  Despite paying zero dollars for Portal (got it in the Steam free campaign) I really feel like I got my money's worth out of this one even if it only took 3 hours to complete.
