I'm talking about the numerous options. You can:

- Purchase a physical copy and play right away.
- Purchase a digital copy and stream it.
- Purchase a digital copy and play as it downloads.
- Purchase a digital copy and play after it downloads.

Or combine as you wish. None of the above requires an installation. While the new Xbox might cover the "play as it downloads" angle (though we've heard no hints about it yet), it's very unlikely to allow streaming.

Focusing on Europe is a good idea. Japan shouldn't be a priority at all. What are people going to do? Buy an Xbox instead? LOL!

Sorry if this has been mentioned somewhere in the 13 pages but have they said anything about getting rid of the 'install' step for downloaded games?

I'll take that install step over the 15 steps it takes to install the weekly OS updates.

yeah, just have a popup about the update where I can click OK and be done with it.

I would be very surprised if the PS4 doesn't have an option to automatically download and install updates, even when it's turned off.

The PS4 has a chip dedicated solely to handling things like streaming downloads, OS and social tasks, and video encoding/decoding. They would be stupid not to leverage this to make updating easier.

Updates on all consoles require approval by the user.

Doesn't mean it won't download the update so it's ready to install when you approve, but, frankly, the download is only part of the hurdle.

There's no way any of these consoles will update your system automatically.

Ok, but I want an option to delay downloading until a week after an update is released and see if it is still available.

just make it like it is with the xbox- you start up the console, if there is an update it ops up with a simple yes/no question as whether or not to do it.

Frankly, I'd rather it do what the MS store, Apple Store, etc does - it checks across all your installed software, and lets you blanket-update your applications/games/OS. I don't like waiting when I've finally got a moment to sit and play.

I also hate the PS3 update times. Dear god man. That was like kicking me in the gaming jimmies everytime I sat down to play a game (given that my use of the gaming functionality was infrequent, I invariably had some outstanding OS update that needed to work to use PSN, and was probably stripping off yet another feature of the console). Right, and when you agree it downloads then installs the update.

PS3 is almost the same, but it makes you look at a(n) EULA first.  It's more than just a click of yes or no, though.
