*edit*  I just changed the topic title so people could have somewhere to talk about it.

Seems from the reviews to be exactly what you would expect; a reasonably fun smashem up.

Kotaku Review

Polygon's review.

Nintendo World Report's review.

Nintendo Life's review.

What is the deal with Japanese game franchises doing Dynasty Warriors clones?  First it was Hyrule Warriors and now I see that Dragon Quest is hopping on the bandwagon with Dragon Quest Heroes.

Dynasty Warriors has been around for years so why this interest now?

There shouldn't be.  It will fail,  a fine example of developers having little clue about what we want, simply my opinion.

A new next gen dragon quest game on the other hand would likely sell like
Gangbusters...

My guess is that Omega Force, the developer of the Dynasty Warriors series, approached Nintendo and Square Enix about collaborating on these games.  Given that they're probably fairly easy to make, easy to localize, and have built in fan-bases, I can see why they'd be attractive to publishers.  Also, I'm sure Square Enix wants to do everything it can to increase the paltry PS4 player base in Japan before FFXV comes out.  As much as I'd love to see a real DQ sequel on the PS4, busting up a bunch of the series' classic enemies with its classic heroes sounds like a lot of fun too.

Not quite out.  Actual release is next week.

Iíve never played a Dynasty Warriors game so I expect to pick this up at some point.  Most of the reviews have actually been pretty positive with a couple exceptions that just seem to hate the DW formula.

I wish it had split screen local co-op.  I think the only option is 1 player on the tv and 1 player on the gamepad (looking at the gamepad).  It would've been better to have the option to have tv/gamepad and split screen tv.

I'm probably going to get it since my kids are big LoZ fans, and would be very happy to smash bad guys with their favorite characters.

Oh, sorry.  That is disappointing.  I guess it is better to have reviews earlier rather than later.
