Whoa, Best 3D Turn-Based Tactical Gladiatorial Combat Sim of 2003!

Somehow I missed it when it came out, I eventually bought it as a filler at a Gamestop buy 2 used games get 1 free sale, remembering some praise for it on GG, and a couple months after that I finally loaded it up. After a rough start this past weekend, I got a few weapon upgrades and got into a grrove last night, playing for 6 hours straight.

How did you all let me miss this one?!

I love the game...I really wish I could finish it.  However if I hear For Nordog! one more time I may destroy the disk!!!

I think cool rallying cries or yells are neat - once in awhile!  Like very third attack.  That stupid brother would scream every time he scratched his butt.

Does Gladius have 2-player co-op mode?

It supports co-op, but I haven't tried it... not really my wife's sort of game. slywink

I played it for about an hour and liked it but for some reason quit and never went back to it. I really shoudl go give it a try.

In a completely unrelated note, I desperately need to uninstall some PC games. I installed like 30 titles on my newish large HDD, and all that does is make me indecisive about what to play!! GRR.

I loved the timed button press-based combat mechanics.    I wish more games would use it, as it adds a more hands-on element to the turn-based gameplay.

Of course the "golf meter" mechanic sort of trivializes the game if you are good at it. In particular it breaks the rock, paper, scissors setup when my Heavy fighters hit Light fighters 95% of the time due to the fact that crits can't miss.

I jsut got to the second area and demolished the competition in 3 or 4 events so far, I hope the difficulty ramps back up again. In the 2v2v2v2 do the most damage contest, my two did ~950 damage, the other 6 combined did about 500 damage... combined!

In the King of the Hill competition, at the end all my gladiators were alive, there was only one other gladiator from the other team alive and the score was 16-0, I was never pushed off the top.

This is all playing as the guy, which was supposed to be the "advanced" difficulty.

Did anyone else find that the story was complete convoluted gibberish from the start? The game play was decent, but I didn't like the fact that the story was too ridicilous like they just had like a mad libs type book and filled in gods names, and things that sounded appropriate for the setting.

I would have almost wished there was minimal story(i.e. final fantasy tactics advance).

I've played fm3,ff tactics(PSone), disgaea, etc and liked them all. Gladius just didn't do it for me.
