wow, it's amazing the level of support CD Projeckt is giving the game with a new version of it.

here's a video covering some of the changes.

Already own a copy?  don't worry!

Well, he doesn't say the download will be free. It could be released at a reduced fee to current owners. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

The question is: will they fix the crash bugs in the game?  I'd just like to be able to play the original game without it crashing constantly.

Update: Confirmed as free.

Here is what is getting fixed:

Mod: "The Price of Neutrality"

Number of Quests: 3 (1 main quest, 2 side quests)

Overview:

# Completely new adventure featuring Geralt and an intriguing new story.
# Placed in the surroundings of the Kaer Morhen stronghold, in a location not used in The Witcher storyline.
# New graphic assets: 2 NPCs models, one tent model, 2 new erotic cards, 2 new flashbacks.

Concept: Geralt comes back to Kaer Morhen for winter. He finds a small camp near the stronghold where he meets a nobleman and a sorceress, Sabrina Glevissig. They came here to find Deidre, a young woman, who is staying in the witchers’ stronghold. She is Eskel’s surprise child, born under the Black Sun (an ancient prophecy says that such children would ruin the World. It turns out that the nobleman is her brother and is intent on keeping her from the crown. Sorceress Sabrina wants to kill Deidre and examine her body to find out the truth about Black Sun curse. Geralt has to decide to whether defend the girl or stay neutral.

Mod: "Side Effects"

Number of Quests: 5

Overview:

# Simple, yet amusing gameplay-oriented storyline.
# Several ways to complete the MOD.
# Shows how to create adventures exploiting various gameplay features.

Concept: Geralt’s good friend, Dandelion, gets into trouble in Vizima. Geralt has to collect a certain amount of money to bail him out and pay for his excesses. He collects the money by completing various tasks. Player can join the effects of one task with another. For example, in a fistfight competition he can win cash or a bottle of alcohol. If he chooses to take the booze, he can use it to get one bandit drunk. Then he will give Geralt a key to a chest with loot. The mood of the story is similar to Dandelion’s incidents with Vespula and Bibervelt’s economics in the books of Andrzej Sapkowski.

D'Jinni Mod Editor

Overview:

# It allows user to make their own adventures in The Witcher world.
# It does not allow user to modify game itself.

New In-Game Features

Code Features:

# Improved inventory:

    * Filtering of alchemy ingredients by content
    * Auto-sorting of items in satchel
    * Special slot area for sorting alchemy ingredients in satchel

# Auto-save option (on/off).
# Character differentiation mechanism (effectively generating approximately 50 new character appearances).
# Look-at feature (characters look at Geralt, deepening player immersion).
# Auto-looting of containers (player may collect all contents of a container without opening the container panel).

Graphic Features:

# 100 new gesture animations in dialogue and cut-scenes, giving conversations with NPCs a more natural feel.
# Improved facial expressions.

Corrections

Code Fixes:

# Corrected English translation and voice work (over 5000 dialogue lines re-written and re-recorded)
# Corrected German translation and voice work
# Loading times reduced by 80%
# Improved game stability

    * Greater clarity of “sequence failed” animation.

# Improved character model for Triss Merigold.

Man, this stuff is awesome.  Almost makes me regret having played it already (not that it wasn't great the first time around).  Still, it should serve as motivation for a replay sometime.

he'd have to wait until May while the downloadable content is supposedly available March 14th.  That said, I've been reading the forums and saw a .pdf file with info on the new stuff (I'm at work so I can post a link to it when I get home and find it again) and the only stuff that looked like it was going to be available on the 14th is the additional quests.    Of course there may have been some clarification in the thread about the new edition but it was about 16 pages long.

Yup, that's what I was thinking. But if it's only a partial upgrade via download, I'll just wait until May for the whole package. May is actually perfect, because I'll have more time then. No hurries.

I wasn't paying close enough attention: I didn't realize there was such a long lag between the downloadable patch version and the retail box version.

I'll try the downloadable patch since I already own the game and have it installed, but unless it features a dramatic overhaul of the English translation, I think I'll actually purchase the enhanced retail package.  I really enjoy The Witcher's gameplay conventions, but the incomprehensible dialogue has really gotten in the way of the fun.

I don't have any dialog examples open in front of me, but in an unmodded version of The Witcher, the average conversation goes something like this:

Quote from: The Witcher
Innkeeper: Witcher!

Geralt: Why so glum?

Innkeeper: The fight's ain't been goin' my way.

Geralt: You bet?

Innkeeper: Helps to pass the time.  Witcher!

Geralt: I'd like a room.

Innkeeper: Sorry, we're full up.

Geralt: Try that again, and I'll get angry.

Innkeeper: Balls!

Geralt: So they say.

Innkeeper: All right, all right.  What'll it be?

It's badly disjointed, but in small doses you can read between the lines to figure out that the gambling innkeeper tries to refuse Geralt a room, but changes his mind when Geralt threatens him...for some reason.

In more complex situations, such as the plot-heavy sequences in Chapters 2 and 3, and the characters may as well be speaking Middle English.  I stopped playing after an especially baffling series of conversations that left me with only the vaguest idea of what was happening -- The Witcher does a pretty good job of letting you know *what* you're supposed to do, but the *why* parts seem severely lost in translation.

We would like to apologize everyone, who impatiently awaited today's release of the D'jinni adventure editor and the first official adventure "The Price of Neutrality". Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances (legal issues concerning making and publishing of mods), the release of the adventure editor has to be delayed until the last week of March. We are sorry again and we thank for understanding. We will also make all possible efforts in order to avoid any other delays and to provide new additions, that will meet your expectations.

that came out the 10th.  Apparently it was a hotfix for an occasionaly incompatibility bug between 1.2 and the digital download versions.

Did I mention that I'm graduating from an AMD 2600...
Should I still wait?
I got Obliv.(and Stalker, and BF 2142, and FEAR, and...) sitting here as well that didn't really run on the above worth a poop.

I know many people played through the original release of The Witcher and enjoyed it quite a lot, but I would highly recommend waiting for the patch that includes the new script translation and voice work.  I'm really looking forward to returning to the game once it's been fixed so I can properly follow the plot.
