With Fight Night Rd3 coming up next week I was wondering how many would-be pugilists we have here.

To those keen on it, would a tourney be in order? Any suggestions on a weight class?

I was absolutely awful when I tried the original Fight Night (never wona single fight). I may try the demo for 3 at some point, but I assume my absolute lack of understanding of boxing will really hinder my enjoyment of the game.

It might, but it's a pretty natrual thing if you think about how the body works. It would help to watch a few rounds of a fighter you might fight as, but you can also imagine yourself throwing punches and see what feels right.

As an example: In your mind (or even actually) throw a right hook followed by a right uppercut...feels funky doesn't it. The uppercut lacks speed and power, you wouldn't throw it in real life so don't throw it in the game.

Now try a left hook then a right upper cut. Oh yeah baby! That feels like you could knock a mouthpiece into the lighting trusses. I'd do that.  biggrin

I think it would be much easier to duck the first punch by falling quickly to the ground.. then stay down...

It really only takes about 10 seconds... and they stop glaring at you and go away. They call me "The Possum"

Should we start setting up the ground-rules now, such as:

Who's going to be in charge of the matchups?

Custom boxers or pros?

Weightclass?

Number of rounds?

Should split decisions automatically result in a rematch before moving on to the next bracket?

...or do you think it's a bit early.

Start it up Booner.  It's never too early.

By the way... I am out  (for now).

Sorry guys, but my playtime will be dominated by GalCiv II (2/21) and then College Hoops (3/13).  I just don't have the time.  Both those games will consume me.

I will follow the tournament closely though, to see how things progress.  My money is on Scoop!  Don't let me down partner!  As you knock Devil into the 3rd row with a vicious uppercut, you need to scream into your headset, "That one is from Lockdown!".

You SUCK, lockdown although I do feel you on College Hoops. I checked out the trailer and it does look sweet.

I wouldn't put any money on me though...  smile

Hey KD:

I would love it if you put together a tourny. In fact, it wouldn't hurt to have someone act as a commissioner and set fights if someone wanted to take on that responsibility.  People can fight all they want but ranked fights need to be set up by the commish.

As far as weight class, number of rounds, and custom vs real boxers, I really don't think I will know how that would work until we get the game.

I don't think custom fighter would work because there might be a mismatch stats-wise. Everyone needs to fight on a level playing field. If we could somehow verify everyone has the same skill level then custom could work.

I feel ranked fight should go 10 rounds.

Weight class is important too. I think Super Middleweight has a good assortment of fighters.

Comments?

I will second this!  I mean look at the guys Gamerscore (65) since day 1.  And oh boy did he run away from  hockey.  He won't even give me the chance to exact some revenge.  Hoagiehead.

By the way, I'm OUT with this fighting tournament thing.  Like racing games I absolutely hate boxing games (and the sport for that matter).

If we are picking the same weightclass, I'm not sure how "stats" would be any different between custom and actual boxers. I don't believe there are really stats to contend with, just styles...and I'd hope we'd want to see a multitude of 'em.

Played the demo from both sides.... won in 3 rounds with B-Hop, 6 knockdowns and he finally stayed down. Won a decision with J-Whatever, 2 knockdowns, but he wouldn't stay on the mat.

Way better than I ever did with the original. smile
