I had my Steam account stolen years ago and it was NOT fun getting it back. My guess is that the email address I was using at the time was hacked. I just logged into steam and made dang sure I was using the steam guard feature. i don't want to go through that nightmare again...especially considering that I've got about 100 times more games in steam these days.

looks like Steam wants to keep their sales numbers to themselves. I don't know, it'd be nice to see some sales numbers for games sold on Steam to see how well they're doing.

Not unusual for privately owned businesses to keep relevant data to themse
On a personal note it would be really nice to know what sells well and how much. I also know if i owned Steam I would be doing the same thing.

I would love to see the sales data on steam. Especially the # of copies sold at the various price points. But I can't blame them for wanting to keep all that propritary.

Wow Magicka doing over 400k. I was under the impression that it was relatively mediocre and bugged. Is anyone still actually playing it? Those are great numbers of TW Shogun.

I haven't played it, but at the prices they they've offered it at, I came very close to picking it up. If there's anything we've learned from Steam, it's that an attractive price goes a long way.

It is, and certainly doesn't deserve the number of sales it has in my opinion.

Judging by those numbers, it doesn't even require an attractive price. Most of those top 10 sold at full retail. 6 of the top 10 sold at $50 or more per unit. Yes, attractive price will move more units, but the higher prices which folks are willing to pay are generating decent revenues - 9.9 million for Q1 for Shogun 2 is nothing to sneeze at.

It is, and certainly doesn't deserve the number of sales it has in my opinion. It wasn't mediocre but it wasn't a triple-A title either. It was certainly buggy though with broken multiplayer and numerous bugs/crashes on release. Still, it was well worth the $5 I imagine a lot of people payed for it. After all a game I wouldn't touch for $25 is certainly more attractive at $5 or even $10 and Steam has those sales a lot

I have become somewhat soured on steam since learning about the 2 tier charging system, us aussies get to pay a huge amount more on any of the newer games. Steam sales are still a good thing but I will always buy newer AAA titles somewhare else from now on.

GoG.com gives you Aussies store credit back the difference between the US and AU price.
Sadly, they don't have many newer games, but it seems they're branching out to it.

Ah, finally I can have Champions in Steam without having to add a non-Steam game to the interface. And it has achievements. Tons of them! More than 700, in fact! I hope they're awarded retroactively.

I downloaded Spiral Knights and played it for a few minutes. It's definitely a light MMO but looked like it would be fun to play with a few friends. Kind of a hack and slash with cutesy characters, but it has a dungeon system that requires you to get progressively geared. And that's just the first area, I don't know what happens when you get out of that area.

Yeah I've put a few hours into Spiral Knights and it seems ok. The catch with it is that everything requires energy. You get 1 energy point every 13.2 minutes. It requires 10 energy to go into a dungeon. Then another 10 energy per level in the dungeon. If you die it costs 2 energy to revive the first time, then 4, then progressively more. You can buy energy through the "crowns" (money) you make in the dungeons, but since crafting takes 50 energy per item, you're often stuck without energy to play. So it's the kind of game you can really only play every other day or so, which is OK for me.

Ah I see, I didn't play long enough to run into that issue. So it's sort of like a hack and slash MMO mixed with a Facebook game :/

Since I'm 99% a console player, I'm having trouble adjusting to the flood of new and unfamiliar info, but I really like it. It has it's issues, but "free" is FREE, of course. And it gives my thumbs a rest, which is nice... Is anyone else here playing it? As usual, I can Craft up a storm, not so good at partying, but if you need "stuff" just send me a Friend thingie and if I can figure out how to answer it, whatever I can make, fish, cook, etc., is yours!

mytocles, the indentured servant of the mmorpg world! You couldn't be more wr... wro... okay, right! But I have a plan this time. Okay, it's not that great, but I did vow never to start or run a clan or guild ever again... and so far I've stuck to that. I joined the "freshman guild" which is a place u can get the benefits (ie, certain quests only available through a guild) but won't feel so damned umbilically attached to the game. That's the theory anyway, lol. I'm not a great player and I solo almost everything so I can work at my own speed, which is why I don't join parties often. I still enjoy seeing and "hearing" the people around me though and occasionally answering a question or providing an item to folks who need them. It makes the game more real-life-y I guess. And I have a steed and a pet, oh yeah.

Considering how popular the service is now, and how it's based all around downloading, it's probably more like they want to minimize their bandwidth costs. Also, they're essentially using streaming techniques for bits and parts of larger files, once only used for streaming movies and the like. A good idea as well. It's a more complex and processor intensive system, but the reduction in bandwidth costs for them should make it worthwhile.
