and you can beta it. it has instructions on how to take the plunge if you're feeling lucky. my favorite: you can now organize your games list! Library Wrangling
As Steam has grown, your collection of Steam games has probably grown too. In order to help you manage that huge library, we've added a more robust game list. You can now organize your list of titles into custom categories, like "Games I should play with Emily" or "Old School" or "Super-Addictive MMOs". Also, browse your own collection visually using the all-new grid view. Last but also least (from the better-late-than-never feature department) you can even type a game's name in the list to find it immediately.

THought I'd give this a try. Start up steam: "Cannot connect to network, try again later". Try to start one of my games- "cannot connect to network, try again later" Steam-"you can play the games you paid for, but only if we have our shit together"

Well, I got all excited thinking it was going to let me customize where I put my games. I guess I can still hope.

How about Steam not requiring multiple installs when you have games spread across multiple hard drives? Ah, well - at least this is a step in the right direction.

I haven't had problems with the new UI re: launching games, but it did make me re-download Tales of Valor.
It looks nice so far, but it really doesn't matter for me that much, I only really use steam to play my games and haven't touched any of the other features.
On the plus side, it looks like they've moved away from using the IE based rendering engine for the anti-IE crowd.

I'm having a problem where none of the text in the drop-down menus is rendered. I can't see what I'm clicking.

Displays testshell error for me. Cant see anything on the home page store. Games page looks pretty but also means I cant see as many titles and so it takes more clicks to find what I want. Probably not an issue for most people but i have 100 steam games.

i have > 100 games on steam too, and if i change the view from "list" to "details" (top right corner buttons) i have a pretty compact list of my games on the left, so can get to one specific game as quickly as with the old version.

No, but Steam is going to get a lot more beta testers! Actually.. I've been using the new UI update since it's been available. I ditched it for a few days when there was a pretty big usability bug, but they already fixed it. It's been extremely solid since then. Even already have a custom skin for it

I can't say I ever look forward to any Steam updates unless they're absolutely essential. Even just the store and game updates downloading over my admittedly craptastic Internet connection, tend to hang the Steam client and cause me to reboot once or twice. I think they could borrow a page or 2 from Xfire or Microsoft XBL, as they're respective updates seem lightning fast in comparison.

Is the Mac client coming separately? The announcement above made it sound like they were coming together, but I haven't found a place to download the Mac client.
EDIT: Nevermind - I see they were doing closed beta signups but then stopped for the time being.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I wish they'd figure out a fix for demo install links not working in - apparently, based on my experience and others' - Windows Vista 64-bit for a lot of people. You have to use Windows run menu to append an install shortcut to Steam's .exe shortcut, and it's just really annoying and makes Steam more hassle than it's worth for demos. Doesn't seem to be on the fixes list for the UI, oh well... At some point I should just clean out my list of GTers in Steam and restart that cause it doesn't seem like anyone I have listed there posts here.

What we also need to do is split up the GT Steam group so it will display everyone online in the drop down menu. Once a group gets past 100 members the only way to see who's online is to go to the community page, and unless they changed that it was a pain to tell who is playing what.

It's OK. being able to sort the games list in the Library section into categories is nice. I've set up 3 categories so far: Current Games, Finished and MP Only. it's nice to be able to install a game, move it to the Current category, and then when I'm done with it I move it to Finished. MP Only takes out a lot of clutter from the uncategorized list too, and since I'm approaching 200 games on the library list being able to collapse the category lists is really handy.

I couldn't really grasp how the new UI works... but it worked fine as far as not having any problems. I couldn't quite figure out how to access my non-Steam games in the menu like I did in the old version. And I haven't gotten around to checking if Demo Installs now work under Vista 64-bit.
