I'm thinking that Halo3 has now completely saturated the 360 market out there.

I'm also very surprised that an American PS3 game shows up before any Wii game.  Well, more confused than surprised.  Did the Wii stop selling out in Japan?

It's cooled a bit in the last month.  There really haven't been any notable software releases.

How much is "a bit?"  The August NPD numbers show 245,653 Wiis being sold in Japan.  Even if you cut that number in half for a September estimate, you'd have to have fewer than 1 in 5 Wii buyers purchasing Wii Sports for the title to drop below Metal Gear Solid's 25,000 units.

These are weekly numbers, not monthly.  Japan generally runs at a consistent 50% tie ratio for Wii Sports- so 25k sales in a week for Wii Sports usually means about 50k Wii hardware units moved.

Ah, gotcha.  For some reason I got it in my head that we were talking about September numbers already.

i wonder how long until the trade in value starts falling- I imagine there will be a bunch of trade ins for the next big 360 release.

Not to be a wet blanket or anything but 59k really isn't all that much.  Microsoft sure knows when to pick their release dates though! If they had had released Halo 3 only two weeks earlier, it wouldn't even have been a blip on the radar:

Sept 10-16
01. [PSP] Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - 487,000 / NEW
02. [NDS] Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon: Toki no Tankentai - 300,000 / NEW
03. [NDS] Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon: Yami no Tankentai - 269,000 / NEW

I taught they only sold 1,000 Xbox 360s over there?
who bought the other 58,000 Halo games?
Nintendo, so people would not get tempted to purchase into Microsoft plan of moving units.  disgust

I'd suspect most of those 59,000 sales are from Westerners living in Japan.

No, what it was was that EVERY 360 owner (all 59k of them) bought Halo 3. So the game will sell 0 copies next week, as everybody who owns a 360 now has the game. biggrin

It is due to the PSP Slim but the Crisis Core bundle was several weeks ago.  This week's sales spike is due to general availability of the Slim.

I suspect that Crisis Core acted like free advertising over in Japan, people got really interested once they saw this one big game for it, and then a fresh new model with improvements is also on shelves.

It's interesting to see that the new slim model does improve load times by a lot if software is developed with the new memory configuration in mind.  One youtube video showed how load times were drastically reduced on the slim in Crisis Core by showing a PSP and Slim powered up at the same time with Crisis Core inside and playing through the first sequence.  The normal PSP had a lot of small load and time at the black screen.
