1940's open world Paris with Nazi's!  the black and white graphics element sounds pretty cool- here's hoping you can boot a Nazi or two off the top of the Eiffel Tower  icon_twisted

Game sounds interesting.  The interview comes off more like they're interviewing a marketing exec instead of the lead designer.

I was interested in this game after checking it out at PAX, but with the shutdown of Pandemic, I'm still not too sure yet....

One review has said the controls feel clunky when compared to Assassin's Creed 2, which I have been really enjoying.  It might not feel right moving from AC2 to Saboteur, and could take away from enjoying the game.

I played the first mission, and I have to say I absolutely love the style of this.  It looks fantastic.  The black and white mixed with minimal color is truly striking.  If I'm not mistaken (I haven't read any previews for this beyond blurbs), the color gets added as you liberate areas.

The driving was nice, too.  Tooling around the streets of war-era Paris is really cool.

I was a little started to find out that the first shot of the game is
Spoiler for Hiden:
tits.
  icon_eek  Just like that.

Where the problems will creep in is the movement.  It's not nearly as smooth as it should be.  The character turns awkwardly.  His climbing animations are unnatural.  Having played AssCreed2 shortly before this, it was woefully imprecise.  It's not a game-breaker for me, but it's clearly an area that could have used more work.

But the graphics and setting will make up for a lot of that.

Yup, just like that.  nod

You're right, Assassin's Creed II has spoiled me for climbing buildings but it wasn't half bad. And the coloring is an interesting touch as is all the German and French you hear on the streets as you walk or motor around. I really need to get back to Ezio so stopped after finishing up the first 'mission' and hitting the Prologue but it looks... intriguing. Also downloaded the Midnight Show DLC but have no idea how exactly that gets triggered.

ps. Did you know that if you click the left stick (L3 in other words) while you're standing still you'll "take a short break" and smoke a cigarette? And that there's a trophy/achievement for "Smoking way too much"?  icon_lol

The buzz at Gamefaqs and neoGaf seems positive. Some people have almost completed the game and they are reporting that Saboteur maintains a solid pace all the way to the end game.

It does. The manual explains it like so:

"When first starting The Saboteur you'll notice a striking byproduct of the fascist presence: the German army occupation has stripped the world of its life and color. As Sean seeks his revenge and ultimately undermines the occupation, the good people of France become stronger and color gradually returns to the world. Better still, the French Resistance begins to fight back with Sean and provides some much-needed support in the streets."

if the one in question were optional I'd have no problem.  besides, I'm pretty sure what's going to happen as soon as I win which makes winning it useless anyways, kinda like the kick in the balls that were the Carnival games in AssCreed 2.

[edit]yep, that was a nice FU to the player.  not even the option to do what I did to some of the other racers.

This has been a very big surprise. Drips atmosphere, fun core gameplay, and minus the animation limitations (yes, playing AC2 before this game illustrates how weak the climbing is), it reminds me tons of the original Mafia. Perk upgrades for the character cause you to play different ways, the story always moves forward, and the side missions or bombings, have "quick. silly. fun." written all over them.

I fear this game wont get much love because, like I, people are sick of killing Nazis and yet another "Ww2" game. But once you put the game in, get past the Prologue and start freeing Paris, the black and white apathy you hold towards the game starts matching the color that blooms onward. Sorry to see this is Pandemic's last game, but like Ensemble Studio's Halo Wars, its actually really fun.

OK, after the annoying race sequence I have to say I'm having a blast with this game.  I have to say though, if I get forced into one more race I'll never buy another Pandemic game again  icon_twisted

oh, and the 'nude patch' DLC isn't active until after you complete the first mission (the antibiotics one) in Paris.  after that a bouncer will appear in the club and you can go down into the basement.  let's just say they definitely one upped Rockstar on their strip club  icon_lol

edit:

I really wish I could re-map the controls to be like AssCreed 2.  I can't tell you how many times I've ended up opening fire on civvies when I hit the right trigger expecting it to be run instead of draw weapon.

has anyone managed to get a level 5 wanted level yet?  I got it up to level 4 but couldn't get it to go higher no matter how much stuff I blew up; I'm thinking I may need to take down a zeppelin to get it to 5.  on the plus side I did manage to unlock a bunch of perks during my attempt, which ended with a suicide run towards a halftrack that took me out along with the last terror trooper I needed to unlock one more perk.  as it stands I have almost all of the perks with levels 1 & 2 unlocked except racing and mechanic, and there's at least one I'm not sure how the heck I'm going to unlock as it requires me to assassinate 5 high profile targets by hand without alerting them and they all seem to notice you the instant you approach, but luckily it appears perks will also unlock as you progress through the storyline, and there's an option to buy a level 2 or 3 in a perk via the black market.

it's like they threw Assassins Creed (climbing, silent kills and viewpoints), Modern Warfare 2 (perks that unlock as you complete certain goals), any WW2 game (nazis) and GTA IV (all the other stuff including the stupid pedestrians who have a death wish) into a blender.   the stealth mechanic has some oddities, sometimes a guard may notice you even if you're out of sight. there's some odd design choices, like why a regular carbine uses different ammo than a carbine with a scope attached to it and I'm not sure there is a dark and forbidding castle off the coast near Le Havre 9there may actually be one there but it just looks like the main evil Nazi hideout) but so far the only blackmark on the game is that race in the beginning.

oh, and the game world is pretty big.  granted, they took some liberties with the distance between areas (like Le Havre is only about a minute drive from Paris but you're not just stuck in cities, there's countryside action too.

I just unlocked Level 5 Alarms and got my ass kicked FAST. Legions of terror troops, zep's shooting you from the skies, and SS spies running you over in their cars. I'm not sure how its possible to survive, but with some clever dynamite tricks, I bet you could funnel em and make a run for it.

Got all the Level 2 perks like Ceekay, with some gold sprinkled in. The terror sniper rifle is absolutely god like, and while difficult to achieve, the Lvl 3 perks really do give you tangible rewards (not passive junk like most games). The game has stayed fun, although playing it in chucks is a must, as there are times where you need contraband to move forward, and running around the city to blow up Nazi installations can get annoying.

Fun game! Too bad its not getting more publicity.

I kinda cheeses it and bought the 'Luck o' the Irish' from the black market to unlock a level 3 perk.  the one I bought one was the one that gave you the terror sniper rifle, but it seems a bit hard to control for now (the rate of fire is insane) so I re-loaded to get my money back..  what I want to know is about Skylars mission to the cemetary:

Spoiler for Hiden:
what's in the box?!?  OK, I don't really want to know until I'm done with the game and hopefully they tell you, but I needed to make the Se7en reference.

according to the stuff i have read, the best silver and gold perks to buy are the car collection ones from the mechanic list.  both are a huge pita as all of the nazi vehicles apparently are not on the streets until later in the game, plus it's a bitch staying alive on the higher alert levels where those vehicles appear.  i've been able to get 5 of them so far, but those armored ones are tough to steal.

hint for the sniper gold perk.  where do you commonly see two nazis standing still side by side, almost inviting you to line up their heads in a row?

and for the 5 generals perk, note that the pistols all have very good range and are perfectly accurate.  don't forget, nazis, like some dogs i hear, can't look up unless you get their attention first.

i had a damn fine run last night, getting a great spot on a AAA gun which was shielded from ground fire but still had a good view of some streets, so i was able to get three perks done without much fuss, even though i was only going for 1.  '20 kills with one vehicle' just took time and patience, but i got the 'terror squad' done, plus the '5 with one blast' on the same kill.

i really love how you can clear out an area of occupation in small doses, so you can take out a whole base on one side and return later for an easier approach.

Does anyone know if I qualify for something before I get to it (a gold when I am still working on silver) does it still count against the count?  Or do I need to do the action required once I have completed the rank before it?

I think the only one this works for is the car collections.  I know the rdx upgrade for blowing ip 3 tanks does not as I had already destroyed one of those wulf tanks beforehand.
