ah, the good old days of print magazines.  this is a look back at some of the crazier ads from way back when.  of course it has the most classic one of the time:

ah sweet , the crowd noise of intellivision sports games,  takes me back.

although if you watch the commercial, its kind of funny they are talking about how authentic intellivision baseball is as you watch the RF makes a force out at 2nd.  ( Umm that doesnt happen in baseball)

Any gamer who knows his history knows about Daikatana.  Question, though, why was that ad so controversial?  Was it the use of the word "bitch" in the ad?

I don't think the ad was controversial other than it stood out. There was general excitement when the game was announced as Doom and Quake were quite popular still. Then the ad appeared in magazines and that was all good, the game had lots of promise and was from an iD alumn. But then the delays for the game started and it looked like the game was never coming out so the ad was not only premature but seemed silly now. Then the game was released and it was crap. So in the end the ad basically made John Romero look pompus with his claims. So there in lies the joke.

The most memorable ad to me for the 90's was this one:



One of the magazines had it as a fold-out poster in their issue (think CGW). On the back of it was a map. Had that hanging on the wall.
