I signed up for Gametap this afternoon, and the first game I played was Earthworm Jim 2. It was one of my absolute favorites on the Genesis, and I loved playing it again. About the time I was guiding a blind cave salamander around an intestinal tract, whilst dodging flying sheep and pinball bumpers, landing on pencils stuck into the intestine walls and listening to a classical Mozart theme playing in the background, it occurred to me that a) Shiny was doing way too many drugs in the 90's and b) this is possibly the strangest game I've ever played.
So what game struck you as odd?

Nothing really comes even close to this in terms of bizarre.

I've killed the boss known as cloudman in Killer 7. It's one wacked out game but stylistically incredible.

Easy - I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream After the Cold War, the computers of the USA, Russia and China take over the world and wipe out almost the entire human race. The Allied Mastercomputer (called AM) holds the last five humans as prisoners to torture them. Any of them has to face his or her past in a virtual adventure AM has designed for them. There they encounter their fears and weaknesses. Yea.....odd.

DUDE! I don't know anybody else who has ever played this game outside my family. I played this with my older brother way back in the day.

Karnov. It seems pretty tame now, but I remember as a kid thinking wtf is going on with this game...
Currently Okami seems very bizzare as well, but it could just be because I'm not far enough in to appreciate its 'genius'. Pikmin 2 is also pretty weird, but in a "this is one of the best games ever made" sort of way.

I'll add Skullmonkeys to the mix as well. It ranks right up there with Earthworm Jim as far as sheer stream-of-conciousness wierdness.

Same here! I remember thinking when I was a kid, "What the hell is going on in this game..." but now that I've played it recently it doesn't seem all too weird. Weirdest games I've played are any Shin Megami Tensei games, Ouendan . . . Katamari Damacy, Killer 7, yeah, I keep on thinking I MUST have played weirder games but I can't think of them.

Vangers easily takes the cake. You're a living car that must speak with the bug entities to get missions collecting grubs, either for food or advancing the species, I don't recall. I still have the game and the manual, I could could never make heads or tails of that thing. The story is so complex and bizarre. Here's the reason you never played it.

I totally want to play this now. Are all the baten kaitos games like this? The Mira world of Baten Kaitos was very bizarre. One village was made of various confections (like cotton candy, gumdrops, etc), another was a children's picture book come to life, and a dungeon featured one level that was played in 8-bit 2D.

Agree with Killer 7, Katamari, Vangers, and Bad Mojo. Out of this World was the first game that popped into my head. That one always wigged me out. Lighthouse was another game that never really seemed all that right to me. And I nominate that upcoming Tingle DS game that Nintendo's cooking up. Already freaks me out.

"I totally want to play this now. Are all the baten kaitos games like this?" This world is in the original BK. Most of the game takes place in fairly standard (although very beautiful) settings, but the Mira world features a lot of bizarre things. I'm not sure if you visit Mira in the sequel, Baten Kaitos Origins, but there is a city made of clay. They're both fantastic games, and well worth playing.
