The longest gaming summer I can remember, is just about over with the release of Bioshock tomorrow. It has been a mighty struggle- I attempted some games I wish I hadn't ( Lost Planet, Outfit, F.E.A.R.) stumbled upon some unexpected gems ( The Godfather, The Darkness) and wore out a game that I was pretty much done with but enjoyed enough to use as my go to ( GRAW2) I fired up my abandoned PS2 and made good progress in MGS3, just one of the AAA titles waiting to be played on that platform and reaffirmed my belief that next gen arrived too soon and that, despite how great a game is, it's made even greater with achievements. . But that's all milk under the bridge as of tomorrow (or whenever my copy arrives). The Great Drought of 2007 is over and The Golden Age of Gaming 2007 Edition, a time I'm sure we'll all look back to with appropriate nostalgia, is about to begin!

Bah. I've seriously got so many games sitting here and staring at me, waiting for me to play them. Yet I keep buying more for some reason. I don't know the meaning of this word "drought" but I'd like to experience it. Yesterday I saw Lego Star Wars II for the 360 for $20. Did I resist? I THINK NOT!
I'm seriously considering not buying Bioshock for a couple months just to clear some stuff out.

After finishing my replay of God of War a couple weeks ago, I made the mistake of starting Okami to help fill the void until the release of Bioshock. Don't get me wrong: Okami is a great game so far, but considering that I just passed the 20-hour mark and completed the part of the game known as "Chapter 1", I have a feeling it would have been wiser to pick a game that takes less than a hundred hours to finish. -Autistic Angel

I got GRAW2 on fri. via Gamefly, and completed it yesterday on the normal setting. I would have enjoyed some multi. with you guys for more achievements. The story achievements sucks. 165Ach. (25%) This is really becoming a problem for me. The earlier games you felt accomplishment when you completed them and was rewarded for the completion ex. 1000. Now Your better off doing everything else but the main story I you like Achievements.

Actually if you complete all levels its somewhere closer to 200 pts. True the MP achievements make up the bulk, but this is one game in which that fact doesn't bother me.

wow.. I thought I'd be hurting from all the releases, but it appears other than Bioshock and Two Worlds all of my 'must haves' aren't due until the end of October. Sure, there's the 'buy if bored' games like Stranglehold and Halo 3, and the quirky 'wait til next year' games like Eternal Sonata, and finally the 'wait for used/price drop' games like Dead Rising, the Darkness and Bullet Witch, but my Must Have list is barren for a bit. How the hell did that happen?

Let's see:
Bioshock Blue Dragon Halo 3 Crysis Mass Effect COD 4 Assassin's Creed NBA 2K8
Plus I might get a PS3 and Heavenly Sword...
I need to get back to work and get some more orders in. I'm gonna need some BIG commission checks for all the great games coming out.

maybe we should count up all of the also-rans. those games which we will not be playing because the deck is stacked against them. games which may never get sequels, or impressions threads that last a week after release. games which we won't even rent until 6 months from now. for me, that list is longer than my buy-it-now list. stranglehold (thanks for the demo. it didn't wow me enough to make the top 5) assassins creed (this may go in the spot formally reserved for sc5) blue dragon (no time for 40 hour rpg's not named mass effect) eternal sonata (same as above) cod 4 (i'll probably break the first time i see this on sale) metroid 3 (i really need to finish 1 and 2, but i don't know when.) halo 3 (i'm really going to feel left out for this one.)

My gameplan is get the must have multiplayer titles for this rush. I'm looking at Halo 3, Quake Wars, COD 4, Left 4 Dead, and maybe Crysis. All FPS games, I know, but I like FPS.
I'll put these great titles on my "buy" list for next spring / summer, or even Jan / Feb if things die down quickly. BioShock, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, Assassin's Creed, Empire Earth 3, etc. I honestly won't have time to play the multiplayer FPS games I want AND all these great single player games over the winter.

You know, I really hate this (practice of making large bunches of achievements multiplayer-only, especially ranked multiplayer). I really feel that 60-75% of a title's achievements should be 'achieveable' in SP. Additionally, most of MP achievements should be possible in unranked multiplayer with your friends - I really don't want to play with a bunch of 13-year olds camping and hurling f-bombs because their parents aren't around.

Stranglehold: agreed. the demo was a disappointment. However, I've anticipated the game so long, I'm still buying it day one. Assasins Creed: I've never bought into this game. I'm positive it will rate 7s consistently and nothing better (not that that's bad, but it's not gonna be an OMG! game at all) blue dragon: no thanks. eternal sonata: don't know enough about it. don't care much about it COD4: this is on my must have list metroid3: don't have a wii and haven't played a metroid since the original (though I did dabble with the DS version- it was too confusing).

I agree with you 100%. I said what I said re: GRAW2 as I've spent hellah hours playing the MP. I think 70-80% of achievement sshould be achieveable in SP- especially if it's a game more inclined to be played SP (helloooo F.E.A.R.). however, on the flip side, if a game is known for it's MP (hello GRAW2, HALO) then I can see why they would put so much towards MP. Your comment about MP achievements being in non-ranked games is spot on.

I don't agree with this part at all...it would be way too easy to rig I do agree that the majority of a game's Achievements should be from SP

Personally, I didn't notice the drought either as between playing WoW I was able to fill the gaps with a few games here and there.

You know, if Developers and Publishers would just, I don't know, SPREAD THEIR RELEASES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR we wouldn't have issues like we're having now (people purchasing 10+ titles between August and December and having NO time to play them).
Yes, this is still a pet peeve of mine.

I hear they secretly get together every year at a remote place and plot how to make you broke by scheduling the real release dates so close together......
