Sony:  So you didn't like the first price drop.  Ok, ok...how about this deal.  We'll make it $400, 40GB, but you can't have backwards compatibility, and you lose the flash card reader and two USB ports.  But now it's just $50 more than the 360!

Microsoft: Hey, for $350 you get everything that was in the original 360 Premium, plus HDMI and a better heat sink!  On top of that, we'll throw in Forza 2 and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance!  (Also bundled with the Elite version.)

I love competition.

I would have liked the Marvel game when I bought my 360.  Neat deal!

And here I was all set to be snide about the 360 breaking. Kudos, MS, kudos.

Sony still proves they're on Neptune while MS provides a corrected and upgraded 360 along with two games for $50 less than the bizarre new PS3. Excellent.

Sony still proves they're on Neptune. . .

I wouldn't say they're as far out as Neptune with the 40GB move, maybe just Jupiter.  At least they made it down to the $400 price point in a year.  Too bad they're not bundling Motorstorm or something with those 40GB systems.  Actually, I think a great counter-move for Sony would be to bndle three Sony owned properties to showcase three different features of the PS3: Motorstorm, Warhawk, and Casino Royale on blu-ray.

Which costs more to manufacture: the 2nd backwards compatibility chip or two blu-ray discs?

and then MS could counter by buying Sony outright and canceling the PS3.  Sure, alot of PS3 fanboys would commit suicide but it would be a good thinning of the herd  icon_wink

MS should also bundle a backward compatible game like Halo 1 just to get their digs in.

Yeah, but despite having BC, whereas the new model PS3 doesn't.  MS forgot one very important feature from its list: reliability.  slywink

Really?  How bad has the reliability been with the new heat sink models?

He wouldn't know since the models have barely been out long enough to get any real data on it-either way, great bundle and solid move from MS.

Not to mention the Xbox following the buyout would probably suck since the only competition would be the Wii 2.

Anyone spotted the bundle in stores yet?  EBGames.com has the Go Pro (Premium) bundle listed as available now, and someone at Cheapass Gamer reported seeing the bundle at Costco, although they bundled it with another control and a charge pack for $400.

I saw the Costco re-bundle of this bundle tonight.  The box said that it contained component cables, so I assume that it isn't the HDMI version. Think I'll wait a few weeks to see if I can get an HDMI Falcon version instead.

Also, the console box is in a bundle box, so you can't read the serial number and manufacturer's date if you are looking for the Falcon version.

I picked one up at Best Buy last night, and the manufacture date was 8/14/07.  It wasn't a new package (i.e. the one that says "Go Pro") but it had the games in it.
