According to Eurogamer Denmark TESV will carry on where TESIV left off

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-11-23-rumour-elder-scrolls-5-in-the-works

Quote
"This source not only confirmed that the game is in current production, but also spoke briefly about the content - with fantasy-sounding phrases like Dragon Lord, something with The Blades - and that voice acting for the characters in the game is currently happening in the weeks to follow.

"The same source confirmed, with official game documents in hand, that this will be the chronological sequel to what happened in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which is the latest game in the now 16-years-old Elder Scrolls saga and by itself one of the better RPGs for PC and consoles.

Quote
Executive producer Todd Howard said in an interview with Eurogamer at QuakeCon that the studio's current title will be announced soon, but he couldn't say exactly when. "I have a sense but we're not ready even to talk about [the timing of the announcement], because it might change. I don't want to disappoint people.

Quote
Howard wouldn't be drawn on many details about the game, but said the technology was derived from the engine that powered Fallout 3, albeit with significant modifications.

"Fallout 3 technically does a lot more than Oblivion. The new stuff is an even bigger jump from that," he said.

"I can say it is on the existing platforms, which we're really happy with. You almost feel like you have a new console when you see the game."

whatever it is,it can't come fast enough,i loved Oblivion

I loved Oblivion, spent countless hours playing, and never advanced the main story. I have no idea what the main storyline is, outside of portals to another dimension that needed to be closed.

Same here. One of the many bethesda games I have played over 40 hours and never finished.

I am a little bummed they didn't leave the old engine behind and that it's being described as a direc sequel.

I'm predicting the use of Idtech 4 since Id now owns Zenimax. And not only because of that, but because the company that owns Gamebryo is undergoing liquidation.

Actually, it was confirmed a little while back that Bethesda made its own engine for TES5 well in advance of the Id purchase.

However, you can bet that any future games will use Id Tech 5. Zenimax will want to recoup its costs in buying Id, because as good as Rage looks, it's still an unknown.

I will, most likely, be in line whenever any Elder Scrolls game is released.  Though I didn't love Oblivion quite as much as I did Morrowind, I played it a ton.  Now, if they will only make a decent-looking Khajiit and a few less-than-ugly NPCs - that would be gravy!

Welcome Aboard, best3444!  Hereinafter, you will likely be called Best, or Bestie, or B-34, but for now, you get your whole name (wheeee, lucky you!)  biggrin

I hope - okay, wish for the earlier arrival... but my darker half suspects that I should beware such optimism.  Likely, we'll be lucky to see that Fall release.   Sigh...   icon_neutral

So much for Bethesda saying that this game would have an incredibly short timespan between its announcement and its release.

Still excited though.

Oblivion was announced in September of 2004, and finally released in March 2006 after it being delayed at the last minute.

I'm just wondering what approach Bethesda will take to geography this time; will it be a much smaller area like Oblivion's or a full continent like Morrowind. Transporting to different locations on the continent in Morrowind captured my imagination much more than the series of towns and mountains surrounding a small lake featured in Oblivion. That said, I can't say I care for the World Map approach Bioware took with Ferelden in DA.

Technically, Oblivion covered a larger land mass than Morrowind. Take a look at the map above. Morrowind didn't cover even half of the Morrowind province, but was set only on the island. Oblivion on the other hand covered pretty much the entiretiy of Cyrodiil, the largest province in the Elder Scrolls world.

As an aside, Daggerfall covered only a minor part of the Hammerfell province, while Arena covered the entire world.

While I'll agree it did technically, it didn't really in terms of in-game area. I could transverse the area around the lake in Cyrodiil in a very short period of time -discounting horse travel- whereas it took a decent amount of time to cross Morrowind. That's what I didn't care for in Oblivion - that they took a large land mass and virtually distilled it down to a very small area. I'm sure that was done in Morrowind too, but the game world just seemed that much bigger.

I hope they get more than 2 voice actors to do the voice over work for male and female nords.  I don't think I could endure the voice actor (Jonathyn Bryce) for the oblivion male nord and Linda Carter as nord female over and over again.  He made male nords in oblivion sound like radio DJs trying to sound tough...while ultimately sounding dimwitted and slow.  Maybe that was what they were going for.  Oh, and he also did the voice over work for orcs too.  Ugh.

Please hire new voice talent and mix it up so not every orc or nord sounds exactly the same.

Clearly in Morrowind, you needed to run around more and get your Athletics skill up smile

An important thing to remember is that there's basically one internal Bethesda team that did Oblivion, then did Fallout, and are now doing Skyrim.  So it's not like they're just going to throw out all the progress made between Oblivion and Fallout.

I honestly didn't think Fallout 3 was much better than Oblivion when it came to voiceovers. Fallout New Vegas was somewhat better, but far from good enough. I consider voiceovers to be Bethesda's major weakness, partly because there's too few voice actors being used for too many people (it doesn't help much in a game like this if you have a ton of voice actors but only use most of them for one unique character each, when the majority of the game is spent talking to more generic NPCs) and because they somehow seem to drain the "energy" from their performances. I don't know what it is that does it, but even the best actors who've been in Bethesda games have sounded nearly asleep (again, New Vegas was better, but far from at the level I'd expect from the actors involved). Maybe it's related to the general lack of emotion the NPCs are able to display during conversation with the current engine, which limits the acting range that can be used.
